I don't want to sound pompous or anything, but I just wanted to say that I don't want your custom knife.
I'm a poor student in NYC, paying astronomical rents and getting taxed up the wazoo on my already pitiful paycheck. Next year I hope to scrape a good $19k from my assistantship at my university. Woo hoo. I've collected knives for 2 years now and yet I can count the number using my fingers w/o the help of my toes. My most expensive knife cost me $40 and probably sits in the unused box of most collections. The cost of sharpening any one of my knives exceeds the cost of the knife itself. I've never touched, seen, smelled, tasted, or held a custom to my ears for longer than a few minutes. My parents don't like my hobby so I have to keep it fairly discrete. My friends think I'm a nut because I enjoy collecting knives. I have but 1 knife magazine on my crappy book shelf and the bookstore people give me dirty looks when I read their mags.
So when I get my first custom, it's going to be one of the crowning achievements in my collection. A true gem and it's going to be worth plunking down hard earned dollars for - no hand outs, gifts, or anything.
So I don't want your custom knife. I'm going to earn my first.
