Who would like to see a big-boy Wharncliffle folder?

I posted this on Spyderco.com forums, so I thought I would give it a go here too.

Howdy all!:)

Maybe this is a useless waste of forum space (maybe I've run this thread before, who knows), but I've made my way back (as I always seem to do:rolleyes: ) to the Centofante IV, and have come to realize how great it would be to have a large EDC Wharncliffe folder!

I'd like to see one with a profile exactly like or similiar to the Cento IV, but with a flat ground blade, and a choil designed into the handles, which would have to be blue G-10, of course.;) Okay, I confess, I'd buy black too!

I'd like to see the edge run the same in relation to the handle as the Cento IV and not like the Atlantic salt and Rescues, which kinda slant inward too much for me. I'd like to see the same thickness (or should I say thinness) as well, works very effectively.

Lock style is negotiable. Lock-back or compression would work, but I'd really like to see the ball lock in something else, it really is a great system.

Anyone agree?
Anyone disagree?

What do ya think?

You mean like the Yojimbo? But seriously, I turned my special edition PE Rescue into more of a wharncliffe blade and I'd love to see it as a standard model. And with a wave...

Howdy, Hesparus:)

As much as I like the Yojimbo, it's just not the most practical EDC for me. Maybe if the blade were a bit longer, it would be different, but I like the Cento IV profile better anyway.

I love my Centofante 4. My EDC for the last couple of months. But before that i was carrying my Yojimbo all the time. :D

I'd love to see a larger/longer wharncliffe knife with a handle construction similar to the yojimbo/paramiliatary (G10/nested liners/compression lock). The only thing now is to decide how thick to make the blade... 2mm is pretty much perfect for a 3" blade like the Centofante 3/4. Thin enough to be an awesome slicer and thick enough to stand up to alot of other stuff. Though if you move up to a 3.5-4" blade you might have to bump up the thickness a bit...

I'd definitely purchase one though. :D

I'd like to see it. A real Wharnie too, not like the one on the Spin, but one with a point like on the Yojimbo.

Hello Axlis...

You made me realise there is no Wharcliff in G-10 beside the Yo. And it is not necessarly a user kindo knife.

I am about to get my first wharn, a big 4.5 inches, but a FB. I am very excited to get it, but not before March (custom  )...

Anyway, just bla bla blaying...

Take care you all...

Simon

maybe something like this

I like what you got going on butch, you really have talent! Maybe round out the nose corner and taper down a bit more, that would be perfect.:) What's everyones favorite grind?

I'd love to see it in a Para/Military type handle, taking the same ergonomic properties, and the same easy carry factor.

Howdy psimonl!:)

Congrats on that custom, I'm sure you will love it. If you don't mind me asking, who are you purchasing from?

I really think there is a market out there for Wharncliffes, many of us here have already found how effective a cutting shape it is.

You just don't see a lot of them out there, maybe the time is now.

Well, my favorite Case is a wharncliffe Copperlock in CV steel. About the length of the FRN Jess Horn, but slender enough to make the Horn look chunky, full flat grind and a point to rival the C50P Centofante. I'd lve to see something along those lines from Spyderco.

I think that there should be a Wharncliffe like the UKP. Not just slapping a Wharncliffe blade on a UKP handle, but a 2.9" Wharncliffe built that way, using that lock, in S30V or better.

Yeah, gotta say the yojimbo sounds right for you.

Also try a love of mine, the Gravitator

I would love that Axlis:cool:

But please make mine fully serrated as well(kinda wharncliffe rescue) with black G10 handles(linered with a screw clip or unlinered with a wire clip.;)

Furthermore I would like it to be a lock back with no vertical play:thumbup:

YoJUMBO! Good one! I llke that. Something like that would be awesome. Not the Gravitator like posted above. Not to fond of liner locks. If you like them, no biggie for me. To each his own. Even a back lock will be cool with me. A blade about 3.5 inches long will be nice.

maybe something like this

This one looks nice:thumbup:. If I may suggest one alteration that would be to lower the front downward sloping part of the blade. In other words, make the top angle at the point where the blade ridge meets with the downward slope more obtuse. This should move this angle further back and it should give a more acute point. This should look like the Yojimbo blade profile.
