Who would want to go on a hunt?

Hey Trevor - I might be in, depending on timing. I have a couple work commitments in October, but before and after look good.

Deer or hog and which weapon?

Everyone list your preference going forward please:thumbup:

Heck, I just want to shoot! Let's hunt a place :D

Lots o'hogs down here! In fact lots of things that squeal too ;)

I'm in, as long as I don't have to ride in your canoe :p:thumbup:

Hey T, I would love to go, but I'm swamped (like a rat). Anyway, we used to hunt little Javalina's in TX, the little guys are fast and tough. Once we caught a baby and put it in the glove box of the jeep. When we got back to the ranch the little guy had chewed through several plastic 12 ga. shells!
I think your hog hunt should be like Rambo, from above with a HH tied to a pole (a very long pole).

It's canned, but there is a hog hunt place in central-ish Vermont. Might be a bit longer than 8 hours from DC.

Hunt complete. I had a freaking outstanding time!!! The hunt was a success for all three of us. My dad, uncle and myself. Both my dad and uncle took 300 pound sows and I got a de-nutted razorback boar in excess of 320. Great thing about a castrated boar is you still get a great mount but the meat is just as good to eat, like a sow. I am posting pics on my photobucket account now so you can check them out. For now here is just me and my pig. I do have to say these SOB's are tough. It took a .308 to the neck from 60 yards and had no exit wound. 165 grain trophy bonded bullet could not even get out on a quartering too shot!!!

Awesome!

It looks like an outstanding time:cool::thumbup:

I hope that projectile took a turn to the right and ended up in the chest cavity somewhere. Did you find it ? Could you tell where it went?

Good thing you werent using a .223;)

I'd do either but I have never hunted HOG and would be really interested in trying something new if this comes together.

For deer I'd use either, I love archery hunting but have only done it on my own and public land. Lost the biggest deer i've ever shot at last year when I hit too far forward on the shoulder :(. Archery and I have a love hate relationship ;)

The Illinois deer hunt is definitely on. Right now I have myself, and GPB down for the 2nd week in October for the 5 day archery hunt. THere are others that have shown interest. Lets see how this date works for the rest:thumbup:

I am looking for a place for the Hog Hunt.

It was not the best shot in the world!! ;) He was about 60 yards away standing in a hole on the side of a draw looking right at me. I sat down in a good seated supported position and aimed center mass of his neck in hopes that the bullet would travel into his vitals. You can see the entrance hole. After we got him hung up evidence began to surface about where the bullet was heading...... it took the top half the opposite shoulder out on the inside but did not make it out the other side.

He squealed, turned and fellow down the ridge and died....that fast.....these are some TOUGH ASS animals and are a real challenge to hunt. I appreciate hogs for what they are....smart, tough and resilient. oh....and really good to eat!! :)

Dad was using a 270. He had a broadside shot from about 30 yards away. He pulled it about 1.5 inches and struck the sow right below the eye. It blew a big chunk out the other side.....she ran for about a mile. Had to get her again with a running broadside in the lungs!! I have pics of the in and out on that hog too.

My uncle took a sow at about 40 yards with a 30-06. Shot her right in the eye. She was laying down and never got up. It took her brain out as well as some spine. She didn't die as fast as mine though. Tough ass animals!!!!

Trevor..., there is a magazine published here in GA. called Boar Hunter. I don't know if it's available in your area, but you should check it out. Let me know if you can't find it, and I will send you a couple of issues. There are dozens of East coast guided and unguided hog hunts advertised in every issue including several that SPECIALIZE in primitive weapon kills (knife, spear, or bow). Some in Florida will take you in by swamp buggy or airboat. The trained dogs (usually leopard cur or pit) will bay and catch the hog, and you will move in for the kill stroke. Two friends and I are very interested in a Florida hog hunt, and I also have a big S&W John Ross edition .500 that I would like to use on a trophy boar. How's that sound to ya'll???

Ok, I know GPB and I are both in October 8th, 9th ...

See the link etc.

I am planning on coming thru KY :) Hitting KC and proxing for everyone that comes:):)

That way we can hunt, party and celebrate the new arrivals this Fall.

I know there has been a lot of interest. Who wants to go on a super archery hunt to The Golden Triangle for a Grand WHitetail buck?:)
