Who would you cast to play Batman?

Having heard that Ben Affleck is being cast to play Batman in the next film, I nearly coughed up my spleen. He's a fine actor, but could anyone be less suitable? He couldn't do Daredevil. When are they ever going to cast someone who is up to the role? The recent Dark Knight trilogy was ok at best, but only reached real greatness because of Heath Ledger's brilliant portrayal of the Joker. Christian Bale's performance was awesomely dull; he moves badly, sounds like he has a terrible head cold, and has the presence of a bowl of old pudding.

Not having another place to discuss this awesomely important topic with the seriousness it deserves, I bring the question to you, the BF community, confident that it burns close to your heart as well.

It is quite a puzzle; Batman comprises an impossible array of daunting physical qualities and torturous personal characteristics that would be difficult for any actor to encompass. Hell, the suit alone completely overwhelms anyone who has tried to play him to date. If it were only a question of physicality, someone like Duane Johnson or Vin Diesel might be right; they at least would bring something to the suit. But the role requires a refined "James Bond" quality neither has. Daniel Craig is actually a pretty good possibility; he broods very well, and has the physical athleticism needed, but is probably too well established as Bond for audiences to accept.

My vote goes to a lesser-known British actor who , to my mind, hasall the core qualifications: the look, the gravitas, and one hell of an ability to kick actual butt. Hell, he looks like Batman without the suit. I give you, Scott Adkins

Feel free to debate anything I've said, but I really hope to hear inspire some vigorous recommendations on what is after all, the most pressing question of our time: Who is the right man to play Batman?

I often say that the person who is least-likely to make a mistake is the man who already has.

So, maybe Affleck will recognize the second chance, learn from his prior experience, and really nail it.

Sheldon Cooper?

Tom Cruise! I can't believe no one said that!

Seriously, maybe Jason Statham. It would be tough to cast Batman with today's actors.

All time? Clint Eastwood or Robert Mitchum.

Adam West!
No for real Josh Hollaway (Sawyer for lost) or my #1 Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels)

They should make a Batman Beyond movie and have Clint Eastwood as old, bitter batman long retired with somebody like Liam Hemsworth the new Batman.

With today's CG technology, Errol Flynn. He knows how to hold his women and he knows the ropes of being a swashbuckling hero.

Errol WHO? How old are you?

The obvious choice: Chuck Norris
But then, who would want to fight him?

Seriously, though. You all criticize Affleck, but the others have included Val Kilmer and Michael Keaton. I mean, really, it's not like we're remaking Gone with the Wind or The 10 Commandments, it's a comic book movie. The real question is WILL THEY EVER STOP REMAKING THESE STUPID BATMAN MOVIES?

Hey man I know Ben is getting a lot of ah-hem, flack, for landing this role. But give em a shot at it. He may surprise. Call me a younger generation, but I think Christian bale played the best Bruce Wayne thus far.

I agree, but Affleck doesn't seem right.

You gotta respect a man who can grab Olivia DeHavilland's tit and get it on a movie poster. And there is a good chance that I am older than you. I am certainly older than that duck insurance guy, Aflack.

It's a tough one. Great actors (Day-Lewis, Bardem) won't take it; Johnny Depp would clown it up real well while he grabs the money. Jet Lee, Andy Lau (China), and "the Beat" (Japan) would all be great, though "The Beat" would have to play it like an Eastwood. If they could get over the height problem, James Spader would be great. Best Choice: Mark Harmon as the all American Batman.........b
