Who's been cut by tip-up carry, and how or why?

Pocket protector for knives? Man, they just keep coming.

I think you should start a seperate thread with your diagram, inclusive posting text accompaniment describing your experiences related to your conclusions illustrated.

I dont think a separate thread is called for, but if you want to start one and use my paintbrush art feel welcome. I think your the odd one out Spey. I think most everyone prefers a tip up carry like whats illustrated in my drawing.
I think its safe to say that 95% of the knife industry feels the same way.
Had a tip down clipped Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn slice me pretty good one time while pulling my hand out of my pocket, and stab me in the leg another time when sitting down. I had carried a Spyderco tip up for years before that with no issues at all. I still really didn't have a preference until I had spent way too much money on a Hinderer. I wanted the world to know what I was toting around so I left it in a tip down configuration so the "Hinderer" would show. :o I now have a scar on my hand and pinky in place of my arrogance/ flamboyance.
Some of the most prestigious knife companies out there make knives with proprietary non removable tip-up clips for a reason,... CRK, Strider, Rockstead, Microtech, Medford, to name just a few. Ive noticed a trend in other companies like ZT that are no longer drilling extra holes for tip-down carry but instead are drilling holes on the reverse side for tip-up carry only catering to lefties. (0770) (0220) (0900) (0808) No longer giving a tip down mounting choice to the consumer like on there older models. (0350) (0560) Ive often wondered if this new transition was because we have found a new norm or if its done because of safety issues and lawsuits.

That's why you're a gold member, RF. My knife is RH carry tucked aft-most into the pocket. Unless I go "Emerson wave" (which I am curious about), there is no way I can have a false draw. Honestly!!! unless you are trying to mimic the Emerson wave there is almost no reason for a knife to open prematurely.

I've carried autos, flippers and conventional knifes (assuming the BM lock is conventional). The only one that bit me was a CRKT KISS. I own cooking knives with samurai worthy edges and that little CKRT (I did sharpen it) is the only one that scared me. Seriously, any knife that has a capricious opening method is bad news. Convenience has limited value.

A good knife is ALWAYS in your control, open or closed. Any knife that gets away from you isn't a knife you can control. A knife is a tool!!!! cutting trees or making sushi, you need one you can control. My kukri isn't as reliable as my deba or yangiba, but it has an edge I would lay my life on. The japanese knives I lay my career on. I dumped money on custom scales for my BM 550. I love that little bitch as much as my damascus japanese knives. I've never been bitten, Then again I give my cheap ass folder ther same respect I give my chi chi knives. There is a bit of cook / samurai involved in respect for the tools. Bushido is a crock of shit but there is poetry
