Who's getting a Little Jack or Watch Pocket Barlow?

Got one and love it, 1 of 2 made... it's with me all the time, in my pocket right now.

Sure--it is a 2008 'prototype,' one of two. The secondary blade is a small clip point, and the bone is 'horse cut'... I have to say, it is a really hard knife to put away and not carry. It feels stout, the spear blade has the long pull, and the spring tension is about a 7.

I love the look of the spear, but I remember how tough the pull is on the 25s of the past, so I'm getting the EO sheepie In red micarta, in rosewood, and in natural stag. I love the size and the ruggedness of this little knife.

Thank you very much for the additional info! I really like the bone on that one.

Thanks, and agreed War Eagle... it has a great look and feel. I also have a newer (2015) #73 liner lock with horse cut bone, but it is a little less pronounced.

Really nice bone on that one, can you give anymore details?

War Eagle, I consider the bone on the #25s such as Aias's to be some of the best ever.

[The bone GEC calls "Horsecut Antique" on other patterns doesn't have the same depth and character as that on this #25 barlow, with its randomness in both the overall jigging and depth of cut, set off by the variegation of color. Or is it the other way around?]

In addition to the two Prototypes mentioned by Aias (of which he is fortunate to have one), in 2008 GEC also produced a 'regular' run of 50 knives-- 37 serialized, 13 not. Mine is #35.

I first became aware of this delectable bone here in a dedicated #25s thread, and was fortunate to happen upon the #35 for myself soon after.

They do float up every now and then; keep your eyes open. :)

I just got interested in 25's so I have an Antique Bone on order. I'm really looking forward to this one. Wide spear blades with long pulls are a weak spot for me.

Running through the pictures, I just noticed the shield that GEC is putting on the Northfields!
You guys can have your sheepsfoot EO and Barlow SFO, I think I'm going to be thrilled with this standard version!

Thanks Pertinux... You certainly are the wise little owl watching over us all!

Anyone have pics of a #25 next to, say, a #15 or #77? I'm having trouble deciding if I want to get one or not (don't know about the size/fatness of it, so it'd be good to see it next to something familiar).

Seems like whenever I'm buying some GECs, I console myself (and my bank ledger) with the reality that the next pattern in GECs production schedule really does not appeal to me. But then when I start seeing GEC's pics of the next one being produced....and the posts here on BF....and youtube videos--generously made by those who own the pattern--I eventually succumb. The #83 was like that for me and this #25 is fast becoming the same. I was NOT going to get one. Now.....well....I'm feeling the itch.

And those horse cut examples are making it worse!

Just before they moved to Michigan, KSF sold off more than a dozen #25s in elephant bark ivory. They looked pretty incredible. Anyone here in the forum who ended up with one that can post a picture or two?

Aw. :o I wouldn't go that far; it's just that, sometimes, one's love for a given pattern or knife leads to an accumulation of suddenly pertinent information. :)

The #25s are definitely foreshortened and overbuilt compared to the #15s. I love them.

Bare-ended #25s are typically thicker at their bare end than larger, bolstered counterparts:

#25 on the right-- it's actually wider at its bare end than the three-spring Workhorse:

However, single-bladed #25s, in their substantial smallness, might be considered perfect. ;)

(I'm partial to double-bladed knives in a Jack configuration, but the #25 Jacks are admittedly, er, "Robust." The single-blade versions are perhaps more universally appealing.)

Hope this helps. :)

So very nice Sarah. The clip barlow is making me miss the single blade clip traded away. :(

Thank you ever so much for the continued education on this particular piece!! I'll definitely start to keep an eye out for one of these. Your example is a stunning piece as well. As I mentioned earlier the #25 was my very first GEC. I, of course, originally bought it as a user but as soon as it arrived and I was able to gain an appropriate appreciation for just how well made and fantastic these little knives are I returned it to its tube never to be carried. I take it out every now and then to look it over but back she goes soon after.

I'm partial to the all steel versions of these little knives they do from time to time more so than the ones with the brass pins and liners. These are the only small details I wasn't overly excited about on this run but I do have to admit that I can hardly wait to get my first single blade #25. It'll also be my very first sheepsfoot as well so that only adds to the excitement.

This is my one example, really feel in love with the Snakewood.
