who's made the switch to fixed blade for edc???

A couple months ago I started carrying a kershaw 1080 because my folders started getting "gummed" up. I'm an electrician and do a lot of work at a hospital. The 1080 is small enough that nobody seems to mind that it is a fixed blade. It's a great EDC.

Thinking of changing it up and carrying something like an izula for edc. Anyone else gone this route? If so, what are you carrying and how?

I sometimes carry a Barkriver Mikro Canadian in a leather pocket sheath. I usually pair this with a folder.

I enjoy carrying a fixed blade but I don't think I will switch to only that. I like to have a rotation of my various knives.

+ 1 for the minimalist! Too bad i can't conceal carry since i life in CAlifornia.... But, Its so small, sometimes I just do it anyways. Love this knife!
I've got a razor sharp BK-14 on my hip atm. I also added a ferro rod holder to the sheath for her pleasure. Love using a fixed blade for day-to-day duties.

I only have one folder left...

All my others are pocket sized fixed blades in the 7-7.5" OAL range and I carry them in my right front pocket. I love EDCing them, not only are they far more versatile but there is a certain feel having one on you; just a little more intense than a folder, if you will.

I have an Izula but I don't carry it much because I can't find a good sheath that is affordable and doesn't take weeks or months to get.

I will have to try your technique. I tried a similar one without drilling the holes and it moved around too much.

Does yours stay in place?
Yeah, it stays put. The paracord is crossed like an X on the back so it stays a little more secure.

Yes. Bk14 in an azwelke kydex carried on support side with blade edge facing out. Strong hand cross draw for utility use and support hand reverse grip draw should it ever be needed for firearm retention or other SD situations. Other than that, a multitool, flashlight, handgun, pen, bic lighter, watch, phone, wallet, etc. needless to say I need to wear a strong belt. Lol. It drives my wife crazy. She compares me to the Asian kid in the goonies movie.

Thanks for the replies guys. Definately would be pocket carrying so I'm very interested in hearing from those that use pocket sheaths. I've seen a couple that kind of look like leather wallets that seem like a good option.

Yeah the leather ones from knives ship free are very nice and are a great option for more traditional fixed blades.

I'm a huge fan of kydex and azwelke makes the best around IMO. For pocket carry, I prefer the slim profile of kydex and its a better option for corrosion resistance.

Here's one of mine:

I enjoy fixed blades more. Cross draw at my 11, sob, or the ZT vertical at my 9. Occasionally in the pocket, but that's rare and it will usually be a folder instead.
My carry fixed blades.

As I said earlier, I don't always carry a fixed blade, but this is what I carry the most, a Candiru...

I carry a fixed blade every day. I also carry a folder every day. No need to switch.

Yea I luv my minamalist. I had the standard blade one b4 I bought my 1st bk14. Thought "I don't need this little thing anymore because I'm gonna use the 14 as a necker!" So, I gave it to my buddy. MISTAKE! Came across the bowie bladed minamalist at gander mtn and snatched that baby up. Been wearing it every since. Bk14 is badass, but NOT as a necker IMO. Just too heavy and got in my way constantly.

I have been carrying a Esee Izula and a Case Sod Buster Jr slip joint folder in a KSF pocket sheath. The sheath is very comfortable in right front pocket.

Fixed blades havent replaced folders for me, but they work awesome in conjunction with eachother. My edc fixed blade rotation is the izula, bk24, buck hartsook and crkt minimalist. They get changed up like my folders, but right now im carrying my olive/black kershaw knockout and minimalist wharncliffe. I plan on getting an alan folts custom minimalist someday, the design is superb functionality. I like to carry horizontal on the belt, its discreet, comfortable and easily accessible with either hand.

I haven't made the switch, I just integrated some pocket fixies into my rotation. Izula 1 or 2, Street beat, or Mule team 18. I tried the ksf leather, but decided that the kydex sheaths I have are less obtrusive.

While l always carry a folder for EDC ( My favourite being my 1095 Carbon Steel.Imperial Ireland Camper slip joint)
My father some times carries a fixed blade when he goes to our ranch for 1 week every two months. He prefers to carry a Custom made Jack Crain Life support system Hollow handle combat knife
I've seen many a nice fixed blade in my time but nothing can ever beat the sturdy design of a Jack Crain LSS ; except maybe my Robert PARRISH 8" survivor Hollow handle 440c knife

I normally carry folders; SAK, a ZT (which is my newest edc), Delica, Cold Steel Tuff Lite, or a GEC #42 in a leather slip. Have carried a Dozier Personal (fixed blade) crossdraw on my belt in Dozier's kydex horzonatal sheath which works very well. Nobody even notices it and the handles are bright blue G10, so it is not exactly camo'd. Still intend to get a Kabar Becker BK-24 set up for horizontal carry, just have not gotten the sheath yet.

I am switching to both. I just ordered a Survive GSO 3.5 that I will carry on my belt behind my gun to go along with my Sebenza 21 in the pocket (currently at the spa getting double-thumbstuds). 95% of the time the Sebenza will handle everything. I plan to only use the fixed blade as on the go food-prep (as frequently my Sebenza will have a dirty blade) and have it there if there if a situation for a fixed blade presents itself.
