In case some of you did not know, Muskrat Man was banned from BF as a spammer...

I don't know all sides of the story, so I will not take sides. However, I have only ever known Kaleb to be a upstanding member of the knife community, with a ton of talent and skill to offer.

That kinda sucks...

First auction spotting, and now this???

Watch yer backs, boys...

Glenn

Really? I didn't see him doing any spamming in here that I can think of. Quite frankly, I guess I don't see what the problem is with showing stuff you may have up for sale. If nothing else, it adds hits to a website which I would think would be a good thing. That being said, I've been selling a bunch of knives in a public forum but have not posted that fact on here because of the fear of being banned. The sad fact is that I would have liked to have made it known because the folks on here are the ones I'd like to get the knives. Oh well, it's a shame really. Kaleb always had a lot to offer here.

What are the Vegas lines on who is next?

The person you know is far different from the person we know.

You should have no fear of selling on this forum if you have a Gold, Knifemaker, or Platinum Membership. MM was warned numerous times that he needed to upgrade to a paying membership if he wished to sell here. He failed to do so and continued his antics thinking he was above the rules. When he was called on it by a Super he got nasty and that's what got him banned.

Ken,
Thanks for the update. You are certainly correct......that is not the Kaleb I know and if what you are saying is true (and I have no reason to believe what you say isn't true), then that's a shame. I believe that rules are rules and we should all play by them and they should be enforced equally across the board.

What it comes down to though is that it is a shame. Nobody really wins on this one.

Again, thanks for the update. I appreciate getting the story and knowing what was behind the decision.

That's cool, Ken. I understand. There are rules in place for things like this, and you can't make exceptions for one person.

It is just frustrating for me when there are BF members who argue, insult, threaten, and belittle others, offering nothing of substance to the knife community and are allowed to stay, while minor (and yes, repeated) rule infractions from an otherwise great member and young talent result in banning.

But I guess you can't have the inmates running the asylum...

Point taken.

Glenn

 I glad to see the moderators finally found this forum. I thought I was the only one that noticed.

I have to agree with you Glenn. The people who cause the most hate & discontent, seem to be able to do so with impunity.

I was upset with the decision to ban Toby Rogers (Arnold). I know he has very serious health issues. Collecting knives & showing them here & discussing them with his friends here was something he loved to do. As a person who deals with chronic pain 24/7, I know how easy it is to have a bad day and not think something through prior to posting. Chemo and changes in medications can lead to confusion and poor communication. In his last post here he seemed genuinely apologetic.

I have known Muskrat Man for close to 2 years, IIRC. I have traded knives with him & we have given each other parts & traded knife parts as well. We also regularly exchange emails just to chat & discuss fishing. In all my dealings with him he has been a gentleman, beyond his years, (IIRC he is 17).

Both of these man have contributed to the content, humor and overall camaraderie of this forum, yet they are banned for minor infractions & trolls do not seem to be banned.

The things these men posted were things that other members had posted as well. I didn't know that we couldn't post a open ebay auction until Arnold got into trouble. I still see people doing that in other forums on BF.

I am sorry to see these men go. BF will be the poorer for their absence, in my opinion.

No one has free reign here at BFC. We do our best to keep this place running smooth and we ban those who disrupt the flow (spammers & trolls mostly). You have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. We are constantly looking out for spammers, trolls, and troublemakers. It takes a lot of work. You see these former members as good upstanding individuals. We see them as troublemakers who try to skirt the rules and tell the mods to go "F" themselves. We don't need that kind of element here.

Minor infractions? Maybe. But when you have to repeatedly remind someone of the rules of the forum the infractions add up and when you hit 50 points...buh-bye. When those people tell you that they will do what they want when they want they get the boot rather quickly. Trolls....hmmmm....they don't last long here. We give them just enough rope to hang themselves with and feed them to the W&C and Pirate's Cove boys.

The things these men posted were things that other members had posted as well. I didn't know that we couldn't post a open ebay auction until Arnold got into trouble. I still see people doing that in other forums on BF.

Had you read the FAQ's you would have known that linking to auctions is a no-no. The FAQ's will fill you on on a few other things as well. These other people you speak of.....report them. There is a little button (triangle with and exclamation point in it) to the right of the post...click it and report the post. A mod will see it and handle it.

I am sorry to see these men go. BF will be the poorer for their absence, in my opinion.

That's your opinon and you're entitled to it but if you see what we see and know what we know you'd have banned them too.

Good riddance.

I am a bit of a technophobe being a geezer and all! Can someone tell me how many "points" I have, or where to find them?? I like hanging around here, but if someone's counting my transgressions, it's only fair I know it!

Charlie, you don't have any "points" as far as I know and I'd be shocked if you ever accumulated any. (I believe if you click on your own "name" you'll see the points in your profile unless that's something only moderators can see. I don't know all the ins and outs of the software.)

That said, maybe you might want to look at this thread to get a little different perspective than the drivel some are spouting on another site:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4743922#post4743922

I'm not known for heavy handed tactics on this or any other site I'm associated with and I don't appreciate some of the b.s. being spread by those who though uninformed still feel they have a handle on the truth.

Well Blues, I guess I'd better come clean and admit that I did post that I thought the policing was getting a little extreme around here, but I was thinking more of Arnold's situation than anything. I really didn't know the whole story with MM, so now I can definitely understand your point of view. As usual I closed the barn door after the horse got out. The Ebay thing is a real pandoras box, especially for this forum. There are so many Schrades of all vintages flying by at once that it's a huge chore not to share some info, rare item, or ridiculous price with everyone here. Of course, by the same token, I've seen things get incredibly ugly around here when a live auction is linked to, and inevitably bid on by a number of members simultaniously.

Eric

Eric, I appreciate your words and there are no hard feelings at all.
Thanks for standing up.

o.k., what are Trolls ? i don't want to break rules here ( i do elsewhere, like i drive over the speed limit sometimes eh?), but not knowing what a Troll is, i don't know if i've been "Trolling" roland

Don't worry Roland, if you were a troll, we wouldn't reply to your posts. If I'm correct, a troll is an individual who only frequents the board to stir up controversy. They go trolling in the river of this forum to see if they can catch someone by posting something extremely stupid or provocative and then watch the fireworks explode from their post. A troll is usually someone with no friends, no real meaning in their life and looks like they're in their 30's but acts like someone in their teens. You don't have to worry about that at all.

Marc, thanks for the definition of Troll. hopefully moderators do give leeway in deciding. for example someone might post they think Chinese Schrades are great and traditionalists should accept that fact. provocative, perhaps inaccurate, but maybe sincere. i guess only by repetitive behavior are motives obvious and expulsion considered. rules are necessary, but excessively strict application would take some of the fun away from posting here.

I don't think thats the kind of provocative the mods are worried about. Now, if you were to come on here and tell me that the Steelers are a horrible football team many times, that is the kind of provocative that just can't be had around here :D :D :D . Naw, you've got nothing to worry about Roland. Just continue the mantra that D&B should be bequeathed kives in everyone's wills, and you'll get along just fine. :p

Blues,

This post is being made in regard to the harassing e-mails you have sent to my son, Muskrat Man, and the trash you are talking about him over this forum. I have been forwarded several e-mails that you have written concerning my 16 year old son and now I am going to address them.

The latest one you posted about him is way out of line and now it’s time to draw the line. First of all, I read the e-mail sent from my son and see nothing wrong with it. Secondly, you’re a liar. In your last post you stated that you “Had no axe to grind”, we both know that is a lie and I have your e-mails to prove it. E-mails that I will gladly forward to anyone who would like to read them.

You state that you assessed points to my son for “sassing the Mods”. I don’t believe you’re a “moderator”; a dictator would be a better description. You go on to say that you’re old enough to be MM’s father? Then why don’t you act your age and quit bad mouthing and harassing a 16 year old kid.

You’re a retired law enforcement officer, is that correct? Did you make a career of hassling kids? You go on further to say and I quote, “I’m guessing MM was taught to treat his elders with respect. (If not, shame on him and his parents.)” Let me tell you something Mister. My son is very respectful and a hard working young man. He has been taught to respect not only his elders but young and old alike unless given a reason to do otherwise. I have never met you sir but from what I’ve read I have absolutely no respect for you. By insinuating that my son shows no respect to others (namely you) is not only disrespectful to my son but to his parents as well.

I find it very strange that out of the 200 or so customers my son has had in his young career that you have been the only one to complain. Your complaints aren’t all justified either. He re-handled your knives with the materials you requested and approved of. I am a retired bladesmith and personally inspect each of his projects when completed as I expect him to set his standards high and take pride in the work he so loves to do and I saw no problem at all with your knives when they were completed. So don’t lie to the readers of this forum and tell them you have “no axe to grind”. Instead of handling the matter in a mature professional manner, you got back at a 16 year old in a cowardly manner by banning him from this forum.

You go on to say that you’ve read the “drivel” posted about this matter on another forum? Well sometimes the truth hurts, doesn’t it? I don’t want to see anymore trash written about my son. I’m not a 16 year old kid and if you have anymore derogatory remarks to make have the balls to meet me face to face and we’ll resolve the matter.

As a father it is your duty to defend your son. I can understand that. But understand that your son did not follow the rules of this forum that have been set by the owner of this site. After repeated warnings he continued to break the them. Your son does not make the rules of this forum, he does not pay the bills to keep this forum running, and he should not be taking this forum for granted by using it to promote his "business". You can defend your sone to the end of the earth but the fact remains that he showed the owner of this forum disrespect by not following a few simple rules. How hard would it have been for your son to pony up the $40 for a Knifemakers Membership? Had he done that all of this would not have had to happen. As it stands now he took advantage of this forum regardless of how many people here think he was an upstanding young man, which he may be but he surely didn't show it by his continued disrespect for the rules.

Blues did what he thought was necassary. I would have done the same thing. He used this forum to further his own business without paying his dues to do so. It is a bannable offense especially after he was warned.

You can continue to defend your son and you can continue to think he was wronged but the rules are rules and if we bend them for some then the others will break them.

Also see Muskrat Man banned for spamming? 1bladesmith also posted in that thread and I responded there; no point in duplication.

I'm moving this thread to Bladeforums.com Service & Support -- that's where we discuss policy. I'll probably respond to some other posts in this thread too when I get a minute....
