Who's watching "Apocalypse Man?"

Anyone know the recipe he mixed together to make the fuel out of old cooking oil? Seems like it was drain cleaner and some sort of automotive additive. Walked in on the last part of it and didn't get a good look or listen.

I am not aware of his recipe, but this is what I found online:

Also note: my grandpa converted his 1996 F-250 to biodiesel. There are some parts that need replacing for long-term usage.

I watched the show for the first time today. I missed the first few mins so I'm not sure how he set up the scenario. I would arm myself first (which I own) and I have basic fire building, shelter, and first aid kits like many of you. Kinda corny like others have mentioned (the ninja skills and peeking around corners) but at least it gives you some things to think about.

I'm a basic camper/hiker, so my survival skills are rather limited. A few things he said/did were good *reminders* imo.

There could easily be a shortage of gas and a diesel car might solve the problem. Not sure how the homemade bio fuel works but something to look into.

Local library. I have maps of my area as I'm sure many of you do too, but if you keep moving around, a good source for local info. I'm in MI, if I decided to move south to warmer weather during a situation, a better detailed map of OH or KY would certainly help.

Certainly not a priority, but powering up a gas/diesel generator might have it's uses (wherever the generator might be). Even the idea of killing the breakers as not to draw attention to you made some sense. Gee, he sure found the breaker panel fast tho...:D

Sorry for my newbness but these seemed like a decent reminders of stuff to consider. :o

I saw it for the first time today but, unfortunately, I had people around distracting me. I'll watch it again when I get the chance. I wasn't terribly impressed with the little I did get to see, though.

I recorded it on my old DIRECTV DVR... watched it today... had an HD DVR put in later today - and searched - no more episodes! I found Bear, however - in HD!

Well, in my mind, this new guy was at least partially responsible for society's breaking down in his scenario - he committed enough property crimes, from trespass to breaking and entering to theft of property. Perhaps a better approach would be to design a proper 'bug out bag' - and live off public land. No comments re water sources, either. Les Stroud was the best 'survivalist', in my never humble opinion. I'd put this guy below Bear Grylls by a wide margin... at least Gryll's quoted experiences are documented - anyone know whether this new fellow had the experiences he heralded?

I won't lament this show's passing...
