Between Bear and Les, I would say Les, even though he is a complainer. Bear is entertaining. I have never heard of the other guy, so I would have to check his work to make an informed decision.

I've learned some people will eat darned near anything for a paycheck. :D I especially like the episode where he had to eat the testicles fresh off the slaughtered animal (got maybe, I can't recall for sure), I think it was in one of the episode with the nomads in the desert.

Well sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I am sure I have had worse put in my fast food by a disgruntled worker at some point in my life.

If you really think about it, I'd say Jack Kerouac.
Seriously though, Lewis and Clark. In those days you could die from a minor infection.

I don't know Ray, but out of Les and Bear, I like Bear. Les doesn't survive most of the time, he just exists and diets for 7 days at a time. Bear chows down and drinks pee. Bear's antics (jumping in frozen lakes, crawling into dead camel carasses, etc.) keep me entertained for sure.
As far as the real thing, I gotta give that to Les. I believe he really spends 7 days alone at his locations. Bear does day trips.

I voted for Ray Mears because I have learned the most from his books and his television programms. Ray is responsible for the surge in popularity of "Bushcraft" in the UK.

I like Les Strouds programmes (having watched hem all) and he's not afraid to show his mistakes... which is good... because making mistakes is how I learn things. He will also show how the programmes are made.

Bear Grylls is now a laughing stock in the UK after he was exposed as a complete fake.

Ray wins hands down for me. He has a depth of knowledge that can't be beaten. Not only that he walks the walk and actually has lived with natives and spends a lot of hit time in the 'bush'.
I like Les as he tries to get you into survivor situations then shows you practical ways out.
Bear is too staged and the stuff he does sometimes is in direct contradiction to what you should do.
Anyway thats my 2 cents.

Bear? I thought he was a laughable farce.

Les? Dang humorous and I'll watch him. Not humorous like Bear - more in bringing out my dark side as I laugh at his whining.

Ray Mears? Did he do a bass fishing show on Saturday afternoons when i was a kid in the south??

[Edit... I was thinking of Bill Dance.]

Hmmm... Ray Mears may bear some investigation.

I think I would vote for Bill Dance first, then Ray Mears.

Ray Mears.

I have learned a lot of from Bear. How to build rafts, shelters, make fires, find food, get water, and tons of other stuff. Bear is much more entertaining and exciting to watch, while teaching you survival skills.

D.B. Cooper.

Cooper, of course, was never heard from again. No one has been able to prove that he got away. But no one has proven that he didn't.

I voted for Bill Dance in a presidential election once.

I gotta go with Les Stroud... he lulls you into thinking that anyone could make it out in the wild. He's not afraid to mess up and show it.

Now Bear was fun to watch until that day he drank the water from the camel poop. I guess thats true survival .

Will have to check out this Ray Mears cat.

You're from TN. I KNOW you've seen Bill Dance on some lazy weekend afternoon of channel surfing. It's not grand entertainment, like Scotch. It's more like a dose of Nyquil - You don't want it by choice, it isn't a wholly pleasant experience, but there is something oddly... jovial about it. :o
