I can remember a time not too long ago when if someone posted a what survival knife is best thread or something similar there would be a majority vote for Fallkniven F1's and yet now I never hear them mentioned ?

Is this maybe because many have now turned to more woodsman-ish looking knives or are knives such as Bark River knives that much better ?

I love Fallkniven.

If I was going to pick a "survival" knife the F1 would likely be it.

But for a knife for what I like to do in the woods I like a thinner blade and a thinner edge and a thicker handle.

But the Fallkniven has that great fat spine for sparking a firesteel. It's got that great durable convex edge and is VG10 so if you had to survive it would stay sharp w/o sharpening a long time. It's stainless so no worry about rust. It's got the cool exposed tang for pounding and the rubber handle.

I still love Fallkniven:thumbup:

They are still great knives. I think the F1/U2 makes an awesome combo. As everyone knows, we have a handful of very talented custom makers that hang out around here. In the last year or so they have produced such a fine variety of blade styles (pretty much anything you want) that they've taken some of the limelight away from production stuff. I know I've enjoyed my share.

For me it´s because they have become very expensive due to the weak Swedish crown. Kraton, thermorun handels and zytelsheath isn´t very expensive materials, no they are not worthy that new price. Too bad...

What are they costing now? We did a group buy on Ramanon a few years back and I think mine cost me 67 bucks?

it is also partly due to people always chasing the "next best thing".... being the first person on the block to have XXX etc. Anyhow, thats just my experience with stuff like this. I love my F1.

I still want to get one myself. I think the reason people don't talk about as much is because it to common of a knife now. But you do see it in a lot pics still though.
I for one am still a little hesistant on getting something that has a convex edge.

I think the F1 is still popular, I use mine alot. However my Bark River Highland Special is the tool for small trips into woods.

Cause now I recommend the H1:cool:

You're right Pit! When I first joined (only about 6 months ago), I saw the F1 everywhere, now, whenever someone asks for a survival knife rec, it's rarely mentioned. I love my F1 though, really a well constructed and strong knife. If I had to rank my favorite 3 "survival" knives (I only have 3 anyway...), it'd be Bravo-1, F1, RC4.

Indeed it does ; nothing else I have throws sparks like an F1 spine. Really quite amazing. I wish my B1 threw the same beastly sparks...need to work on fixing that.

I'm not sure there's a better all-around outdoor knife than the F1. After I got my first, I bought a second. I have had no desire for anything else in that size range since. I will usually use a smaller knife like the Vic Farmer or OH Trekker for most things but if I were dropped nekkid into the wilderness, the F1 is most likely what I'd want (along with a pair of shoes...).

From 2009 they have changed the price. For example, on Fällkniven homepage an F1 with zytelsheath cost 1270 sek. With current US dollar, that 150,82 dollars:mad:

love my F1 i think its an awsome knife, dont use my highland as much as i would like

Why do you prefer the Highland ?

It's Orange :D

The HS has a really good grip. I can cut saplings, small branches, baton firewood and wittle fuzzsticks with ease with the HS, but F1 always leaves me with a cramp doing the same.

I know I'm changing topics a little here but I was looking at both the Woodland and the Highland ( they both have the same handles but the woodlands blade is 1" shorter ) and just wondered if the Highlands blade might be a tad too long for the handle ?
