Why are Fallkniven's no longer popular ?

hey gunknifenut, could you post a picture of your F1? i'd love to see some modded ones.
to the OP, fallkniven's are very popular in my book.

I'm glad I have an F1, one of my favs but like many have said, so many good companies/makers out there now that are very popular and well made.

Like Bark River (especially the Bravo-1) IMO has really been popular, also the RC's, and Becker is back! and way more. Competition is a good thing! more great choices for us.

(and even you! got a Mora! :p :D )

I just orderd my first Fallkniven. The leathered handled NL-5 Idun. I own several Bark Rivers including the Bravo-1 and am looking forward to comparing them.

Love the leather handled Fallknivens, especially the Idun and Thor!
But the price, especially the Thor's price gives me sticker shock!
Wish they offered those two as blade blanks like they do some of their other knives.

Me too...they are up to about $83 now....my next one will be in black micarta...or maybe nat'l....this one is in cocobolo.

The ONLY beef I ever had with the F1 was the handle was a little too small for my large hands. Now I know the solution.

That's a beautiful job you did!

Stay sharp,

Agree - Beautiful job Rayban

I am not speaking about them because I have them - bought the F1 and S1 6 months ago. Have not felt the need for another fixed blade since then.

The thermorem is fine to me if not beautiful.

But the non traditional style of the hanlde material and the dangler sheaths may put some off.

The otehr question is the fashion changing back to Mora style? i.e thinner cutting blades

I love Fallknivens, probably my favorite manufacturer, the F1 in thermorun is just about perfect for a though compact bushcraft knife, needs to be reground though, the edge is way too thick out of the box IMO. I'm considering carving & sanding the guard off though, they're not really my thing. I also prefer the laminated stainless to any carbon... I guess I'm just rambling on now, but like I said -- I love Fallknivens.

I guess they've just become old news, perhaps it has become a 'goes without saying' knife suggestion when people come around asking for knife advice?

Funny I was thinking today explaining why Fallkniven ergonomics are so great, without even considering steel type, laminated steel, stock thickness or convex edge:

unobtrusive guard
protruding tang
small choil
quite neutra grip
well devised grip...

From those, they beat about 90% percent of production
Seriously choose a random knife and pit it against the fallkniven: hard to have the fallkniven look bad.

Actually I'm more in H1 3G right now

The only complaints I have are:
* not carbon steel
* 'd be interested to see a scandi grind

Would also love to see a carb steel knife sporting fallkniven ergonomics

it has become a 'goes without saying' knife suggestion
was about to say that
actually maybe they don't get mentionned a lot because they are fun killers: they rule out so many other knives it gets boring.

eg:

In terms of ergonomics:

F1 versus CS Master Hunter:
*********************
look a lot like each but
CS<F1: boxy handle, more obstrusive guard, no protruding tang, larger ricasso, beveled edge

F1 vs Benchmade CSK:
*****************
CSK<F1: screw-on pommel; obstruvise guard, no protruding tang, beveled edge, no choil...

List goes on...

I will say it was a little more than I usually spend for a knife(Its was $209). But I havent bought a knife since Oct. This one really caught my eye and I figured it would just mean buying less knives this year . The only other knife I own that cost more is my Desert Ironwood Bark River BRavo-1.

The F1 is all you would ever need for a blade in a survival situation, IMHO. Pair it with a Concealex sheath from Normark and you have a classic set-up. I'd say the same for the H1.

Hmm, I didn't realize the prices went up, but then again I haven't been checking prices on them since I got mine. I paid $76US ($60 + $16 S+H) to Toronto for my U2 in January 2008 and $98US ($85US + $13 S+H) for my F1 in Feb 2008.

The F1 is still the "only one" knife for me.I have small hands, and so the handle doesnt bother me- in fact, it fits perfectly.

I bought an S1. A very attractive knife but I was surprised how small it was for a 5" blade knife. Short blade height and small handle. Nice knife tho.

I've been an F1 user for 6 years, and it's my go to knife. Picked up this F1 not too long ago (Desert Ironwood, w/ Torquoise inlay), but having trouble using it while I still have my beat up thermorun version.

rksoon, if your interested, this is a BRKT custom handle. I picked mine up from Derrick at knivesshipfree.com. The sheath is the JRE cricket. I had to wet and stretch the leather to get the thicker handle to fit (it was originally made for the standard F1
