Why are Fallkniven's no longer popular ?

I have an F1 and a PXL-IM. these are my favourite knives.

popularity is a strange thing. quality is even more strange.

i have heard some people say that the F1 does not 'look good'. perhaps that is the popularity problem. to me however; it looks great. it looks like its built to work, and it can do work.

i am not sure who would argue quality is an issue for Fallkniven. i would not. i don't hear that much. i think this will be the long term tell-all, if they are good people will stick to them.

More options these days. Bark River's CPM154 Bravo 1, Spyderco's mule team CPM-M4 and CPM-S90V, and the upcoming ZDP-189 mule are all recent (or soon to be) competition. Add in the price increases on the Fallknivens...

G'day Pit.

I wouldn't even hazard a guess why trends in popularity occur

I will say that they continue to be my knife of choice

Kind regards
Mick

I also had a Bravo-1 and felt the Bravo was better balanced.

I have both and I like the handle on the Bravo better but I use the F1 more because it is more compact. The Bravo is a little oversize for what I like. I'm interested to see what the Gunny looks like. If it is more F1 sized but with the Bravo handle that will be a really nice blade.

I'm gonna have to choose, too pricey!

I love the TK2, but the extra scratch just hasn't been there to justify getting one.

X2. I have both the F1 and B-1 also. I use them both and actually think I like the 4.25 inch blade size of the B-1 over the 3.8 inch of the F1, although its very close. I will also be getting a Gunny though.

It is one of my favorite knives and I use it all the time. A few of the customs I have are probably nicer, but I just feel bad beating on them. The F1 is a worker. Here is a pic of it in the catskills.

I have an F1 and really like it so far. I got it a month or two ago. It was much smaller than I was expecting, but that's not a bad thing.

I agree with those who say that one of the reasons is that it's "not new and exciting" as other companies flood us with newer models. In 10 years, it'll will go from being dated to being a classic. :D It's a great design, works well, and will continue to work well no matter what comes along the pike. I've been so impressed how it works with a firesteel that I'm going to work up a review.

The blades are finished in Japan. Most handles are from Japan. Sheaths are sourced out elsewhere.

Everything ends up in Sweden and then shipped here.

I think they are still fine knifves, it's just that there are more options now days.

F1 Micarta (Bushcraft), S1 (Survival) and IDUN (Bushcraft on steroids and my personal favorite) are all excellent knives. I bet theres quite a few here that have heavily used Fallknivens that still shave hair!

+1. Same knives, same view.

We sell Fallkniven and we have found the S1 out sells the F1 by 4x1. With both in my hand I much prefer the S1.
I think most people ( I say most because there will be some people where the F1 will suit their needs better) only go for the f1 because the F1 is the one which gets the rave reviews but I certainly prefer the S1 for size and balance.
As for the other stuff my next knife is one I'm grinding out because I can't find anything that is what I have decided I need ( this week).

I suppose the flat grind crowd would prefer the F1. It should be sweet when it comes out in laminated 3G powder steel. Too many good knives out there.

One thing I really wish for from Fallkniven are slightly longer handles and some swell at the buttend.

I am really into Fallkniven right now...I am diggin the leather handled northern light series...great knives. I still love the H1..and I have a reprofiled and rehandled F1 that is hard to beat! Fallkniven's are great.
