Why are kershaw knives so awesome?

I have owned several Kershaw knives and liked all of them. They are great value for the money.

I got a Kershaw Cyclone about a month ago and couldn't be more pleased. Now that I've tried one, I keep going back to the tables that sell them at the gun and knife shows and keep trying each one on for fit and action. I can see many more Kershws in my future!

I don't think I'll be parting with my Blur for quite a long while. I removed the rubber inserts and its now a close to ideal knife. For work, I was carrying a Leek which has been great... but I recently picked up a CRKT Ripple. I am not a fan of CRKT, but this knife rocks. It has replaced the leek for my at work edc :-O

I have a Storm I in my pocket right now.

I got two Storm II's in the box back at home (plain blade and combo), and I got two used Storm II's at two different pawnshops (combo blade) just for the heck of it.

These last two saw quite a bit of use (one of them more abuse than use); and I'm hoping a humble letter to Kershaw will bring them back to life (refurb/recondition).

Kind regards,

Xela

I believe the correct term would have been 'sarcastic.' :)

I stand by my classification of his statements as ironic :p

From dictionary.com

irony
the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.

My theory on why they're so fun is cause they make each of their knives very
unique from one another. The opening mechanism is different, the steel, the
handles, colors, etc. I don't know what it is either, but Kershaw makes "FUN"
knives.

I have experience with a few Kershaws. For some reason they fly under my radar often. They are a tremendous value for the money and they are the only company that I know of that offer such a wide selection of US made extremely top quality products, with Benchmade like precision for very low prices.

Kershaw often uses equally tough and strong no frills materials on their knives to keep them affordable to the average person without sacrificing precision and quality. A few examples would be their use of stainless steels instead of titanium in the liners or handles of their knives.

Their liner and frame locks are well made and in my experience generally don't fail. The thumb stud lock is unique, convenient for one hand opening or closing, and very strong.

Who else makes knives with a CPM D2 edges mated with Sandvik 13C26 in the upper blade portion. Some of these knives such as the Junkyard Dog 2 composite are priced quite low too.

Kershaw also passes their savings to their customers. Their imported knives with the exception of Japanese made are usually priced lower than the US made ones.

Although most of the Kershaw folder line uses Assisted opening and Flippers (note not all of them do.) Despite that they do make their knives in all shapes and sizes from tiny gentlemanly lock back folders to beastly assisted opening blades. They also make their share of purpose oriented fixed blades. Looking at Kershaw's wide selection gives me the impression they design cutlery with practical use in mind both for the specific and general.

I think they were at a time one of the most under rated knife companies but that seems to be changing real fast.

Hi my name is Flashpoint, and I'm a Kershawaholic.:D

I have looked at a lot of other brands when it comes to building my collection and have bought a few, but the overwhelming majority comes down to Kershaw. The just have a lot of interesting designs, that are built with quality material and a reasonable price and I think they stand alone in this field for the most part.

Great price for what you get!

A skyline and storm 2 for around $30 each...made in USA? AMAZINGGGG

and
I'm sure lemons like your knife happen to all companies, but this isn't the first thread where someone has mentioned Spyderco's warranty dept. dismissing their legit gripes as "being within QC standards". That knife would not cut the mustard with me, either. :thumbdn:

The messed up knife is bad enough, but Spyderco refusing to replace or repair it really irks me. Flukes or manufacturing flaws I can understand, but poor CS policy can't be blamed on machinery or the luck of the draw. That's just unacceptable, imho.

Good to know Spyderco is so eager to help out their customers. Makes me think twice about the new Dragonfly I've been eying...

We all know that kershaw's customer service is top notch...another reason why we love them!!

Still waiting for my Kershaw RAM to come in...love the looks of that knife!

Whatever you do, stay away from the 1820 Needs Work - and especially the JYDII, like the 1725CB with it's D2 blade edge - or the 1725SG2 with that Ti framelock handle and SG-2 blade. If you get one of those, your view on other brands will forever be jaded! Talk about quality and value, what a high bar they set - even that basic Sandvik 14C28N Wharncliffe-like bladed 1820 Needs Work. That 1725SG2 is a real bargain as a 'Blemish' from our 'Kershawguy' here, while he still has them.

I have to admit to having bought more Kershaws when their so-named sub-forum was still operable here - it really helped keep us informed. Sigh. I did find the Benchmade Forum - elsewhere - and bought too many of them in the last year - see, the forum really helps. My main source of Kershaw info is this forum now - or a trip to wallyworld. A bigger sigh.

In all seriousness, if you don't have a Blur, Needs Work, JYDII, etc, you owe it to yourself to try one - fantastic! And - made in the USA! (Okay, I have one import of Kershaws - the 1993-2 Gentleman's Folder in VG-10 & micarta - Japaneese perfection!).

I have avoided spyderco for this long but the new Blackie Collins Sage 3 with bolt lock is reallllly gonna be hard to pass up.

Nah man, Sage 4 with Ball Bearing Lock. Hopefully the type of BB lock without the polymer thingy wrapping around the ball bearing. The old Poliwog, Pheonix and D'allara sized ball bearings are sexy :)

Kershaw has (IMHO) the most variety in design and variety of steel type used. Combined with the consistent quality outta every box, Kershaw is really awesome!

i think its mostly their uniqueness

but they have affordability, variety, quality contruction and materials, and great customer service to back it up. plus they make many blades in the usa

And then wait til you have a warranty issue ;)

Never had one. Had some with kershaw though. Their service was fantastic though, dont get me wrong. I'm very confident in Spyderco's CS. From every post I've read on these forums that are about people dealing with Spydies CS, only one has been negative (cant please em all).
