I just got my guardian 3.2 recently and was super excited about it. It was my first fixed blade that I’ve been using for edc. Yesterday I went to my brothers house that I see a few times a year. He was really drunk and wanted to hang a ghost decoration from a tree and asked if I had anything to cut the rope to size to hang the decoration. I said sure and pulled out my guardian and handed it to him. He gave me a look like he just seen a ghost (pun intended lol) and quickly gave the knife back to me while mumbling something along the lines of “what the f*** is wrong with you”. Immediately after giving the knife back to me and Before I could even sheath the knife he whipped his hand at me with his back towards me(for what reason , I have no idea) . His hand was severely cut from the tip of his finger all the way to his wrist. He then preceded to scream at me asking why I’m carrying a “large kitchen knife like crocodile Dundee” and kept saying “your so lucky were brothers because you’d be laid out on the ground right now” even though I profusely apologized he was hurt, it didn’t matter. He said it was my fault for having a knife. His daughter ; my niece, Started crying and told me she didn’t want to see me again and his wife asked why I would ever carry such a weapon and grilled me over and over again about what I would ever need it for besides to hurt people. Even though I explained it’s just a small knife I use for work and other stuff it didn’t matter. They kicked me out and it was very awkward and I don’t think I will see them again for awhile. I feel terrible it happened and now its making me question every carrying a EDC fixed blade again. Why are people so terrified of fixed blades even when they are tiny??? Am I the asshole?

Wow, cut your losses and count your blessings.

I'm surprised you didn't know that reaction would be had, do you even know your brother? Why was this a surprise... you'd never talked to him about knives or guns or anything? Didn't have even the slightest clue he was this way?

I mean if you're bringing a fixed blade as an EDC and your family doesn't know you carry knives they will be a little offput by it. No excuses on that kind of behavior though.

Wouldn't call you an asshole though.

Next time though don't give a drunk person a knife that's just stupid.

I only see him a few times a year and yeah we’ve talked about that stuff before so I thought it was ok honestly: And him being “really drunk” is normal for him because he’s an alcoholic. So even though he’s drunk he’s still functional. Idk I feel bad about the whole thing and just feel the need to vent.

Lesson learned… he knows I life knives but as I said I don’t see him much so I don’t think he knew is was a hobby I had.

Damn man, I probably wouldn't have put this on the internet. But I feel for you.

Thanks haha. Just hope he’s daughter gets over it more than anything. She was scared. I’m the complete opposite of a violent person so it’s just upsetting that she may think that now.
I’m gonna guess she’s more reciting something she saw on some moronic tv reality show than actually not wanting to see you again. Little girls can get overly dramatic like that. As for your brother, he’ll either get over it, or hopefully wake up wondering what happened to his finger after he sleeps this one off. But Jesus, he asked for something to cut a rope with - what was he expecting you to give him, a popsicle stick?

Sucks now but someday it might be a funny story at family functions. I would say if they’re city folk as am I, fixed blades are not the norm. But being a knife nerd, I’m not thrown off but I could see most being like wtf.

Did he need stitches?
Yeah hopefully will be funny someday lol.
No I don’t think so, my other brother called him this morning and he said he’s ok it just took a while for the bleeding the stop and he wrapped his hand with bandaids and a layer of gauze.
