I’m gonna guess she’s more reciting something she saw on some moronic tv reality show than actually not wanting to see you again. Little girls can get overly dramatic like that. As for your brother, he’ll either get over it, or hopefully wake up wondering what happened to his finger after he sleeps this one off. But Jesus, he asked for something to cut a rope with - what was he expecting you to give him, a popsicle stick?
Yeah very possible she was being over dramatic just cause she saw everyone else getting worked up. From what I heard he’s ok now, didn’t need stitches or anything. He probably did forget though lol. And yes he knows I like knives so I think maybe he was expecting me to pull out my Leatherman which I also carry or a small folder idk.

I find this whole story hard to believe, post pics of the knife with his blood on it.
Why would I make this up? It happened lol and if u don’t believe it then whatever I guess that’s on you. And honestly there wasn’t even any noticeable blood on the knife surprisingly.

Pics of his wounds will do.

There's nothing wrong with carrying an "edc" Fixed blade, it's been done for thousands of years. Let your brother make his tantrum. And just move on, it was just an accident. He's over reacting

"Do you have anything to cut this rope?......wait, why do you have that knife!?"

That's pretty much all you need to answer your question. A person who makes that statement isn't going to have a reasonable dialogue or willingness to understand.

You're not an asshole for carrying and using a small fixed knife. You made a strategic mistake in handing it to, then holding it near, an inebriated person. But you already know that by now.

Tough break with your brother, I feel bad for his wife and daughter. I'm sure they deal with his unreasonable, if not alarming behavior on a daily basis. Perhaps your sister in law and niece had a disproportionate reaction because they knew they would have to deal with your brother's disproportionate reaction to cutting his hand. I would not take their reaction personally: people under emotional strain can lose their composure under otherwise normal circumstances. But you know them better than strangers on the internet.

Regardless, I hope their circumstances improve.

Lesson learned I guess.. as I stated , he’s an alcoholic so him being drunk is normal for him .
If that’s the case, then, yes, it is your responsibility to avoid putting him in situations where his being impaired could harm him. In this case, that means avoid giving him a sharp knife.

Why are people so terrified of fixed blades
Mass media indoctrination . Especially for folks that don't have a context for utility use, outside of the kitchen .

With few exceptions , fixed blades are usually shown in negative contexts for thrills and chills .

And the very act of carrying anything ,that can be used as a weapon, has become a politically polarized issue for many .

So far as family dramas ...sigh ! You get to chose your personal friends , but not family .

I've always carried whatever I felt I needed , or just wanted to . But in public , normally well concealed .

I sometime will cut something for somebody, upon request , but very rarely ever hand my knife to anyone .

Lot of people now don't know what a sharp knife is ...or how to handle one .
