Why are so many Sebenzas for sale on the form?

Everyone knows Sebenza's are garbage, that's why! :D:D

Seriously though, I've seen a lot of posts here on the forums where people who have bought them have been less than overwhelmed. IMO, it's a lot of money to spend to feel that way.

My .02 cents anyways...

Sebenzas are one of the most risk free knives to buy or sell. Due to their consistent tight tolerances, basic design and giant loyal fan base they are always in demand. Some collect them in order to sell when times get tough, some buy knowing if the knife isn't to their taste it is easy to sell for at least what they paid plus or minus shipping costs. Some people buy one, want more, fall in love with another model and then liquidate the original as they do not need it any more. Some people sell their favorite knife because times are tough.

As you can see there is a market for them, and when you have high demand with the numbers out there you also get high supply.

I can give an answer to why there is at least 2 Sebenzas up for sale, being they're mine. First of all, let me say that the Sebenzas and the Umnumzaan that I recently sold, are fantastic knives. The fit and finish are nothing less than superb, and my reason for selling them has nothing to do with not liking them or being impressed by them.

For me, it's simple economics. I am not hurting for money and I am fortunate to have a good job, but I have a simple rule when it comes to "wants". I work to provide the best life I can for my family and to have something later on in life. I am somewhat still young at 33, but I realize that sometimes you have to make sacrifices in order to accomplish the mission so to speak. I keep the money that I earn from work seperate from my "play money", which I use to do or buy stuff on my "want" list. There is something that I have wanted to do for awhile now that I feel will be more beneficial for us long term, and in order to make it happen I am purging some of my stuff. Unfortunately, the Sebenzas and Umnumzaan were chosen because they will free up the most cash.

I will admit that sometimes I have a hard time in letting stuff go, and it wasn't easy in listing the items that I did. When it boils down to it though, it's just stuff and if I let material stuff have any control in my decisions, then I will fail in my long term goals.

So for me it isn't about disliking or not being happy with the CRK folders. It's about sacrificing short term goals, in order to accomplish my long term goals. Hopefully I haven't bored you guys with my reasoning, but I just thought you would like to hear it come straight from one of the "horses mouth".

Yeah, you get stuff and you can always get more stuff, if you get rid of some of it. Just like you got the stuff you got rid of! Even if you may not be able to get the same thing you had before, still there's always something fairly exciting out there to obtain.

I have been selling some CRK's because I have been becoming addicted to certain custom knives. But....I will always own a sebenza...

I think people just had an opportunity to acquire something else that they have been waiting for. I sold some blades to pay for a new Kimber that happen to come my way.

I say it is a combination of the economy and a phenomena called "diminishing returns".

Simply put, if you compare a 25 dollar knife to a 100 dollar knife...the difference is often quite remarkable.

Applying the same 4x multiplier to a 100 dollar knife generally does not yield *AS* remarkable of a difference (relatively speaking).

Not everyone appreciates a 400 dollar knife the same way. Some are not really "wowed", so they feel the best move might be to re-sell it before it becomes less than "LNIB".

I hate to sell mine but it's up on the exchange. Why?
Because I'm looking to buy some equipment that I need to try and make some knives on my own.
It is partially the economy. I hope at some poiint to make a little side revenue stream to help out my family.
Pretty simple. I actually hate to sell it. I'm keeping my small seb and umnum by the way.

I was thinking the same thing..Dremel and hack saw, just like YUNA!!!

because people want to sell them.

It's the economy no more no less just another sign of the times

Bills keep on piling up and selling a Sebenza can help with that in some way or another. Aother aspect that is even more obvious is with so many knives coming out, there are more people that not that sell one knife to pick up something else.

I don't know if I have the right to post here as I don't own a Sebenza, but I suspect that people are selling/trading them off to fund some other enterprise (same as any other knife in their collections.) Perhaps they've spotted a different CRK that they like better and can't afford to own both. Maybe a plain Sebbie has whet the appetite for something a little fancier with special inlays or etchings. Who knows? I don't think it's a knock on the knives themselves to see them listed on the forums. But what do I know...? :)

Well my setup will be cheap but I am springing for a craftsman sander. I REALLY hate hacksaws... Now someone buy my Sebenza! :D

I think one reason us that many new knife collectors jump into buying one. Often early collectors may fail to see the extra work put into a sebenza an are underwhelmed. Many tines these same collectors come back to the sebenza in a few years once they learn more about the hobby.

Probably due to a recent spike in Skyline sales, theres a whole other post on the subject.

Seriously though, (yes that last line was tounge in cheek) just the ebb and flow of things reallly. Part of the hobby for more than a few of us I suspect, to rotate our collections.
