Why are so many Sebenzas for sale on the form?

As for the original topic. The economy and bills, people realising that a 400+ knife is a want and not a need. More like pocket jewelry for a lot of people. I highly doubt it is due to many people having issues with CRK like some of us have had.

I had a not so good experience with CRK and from my personal experience with them I can probably say with confidence that CKTenders is not talking out of his ass. I have never seen a company where they literally don't want to earn a customer's money, until I came across CRK.

In regards to why there are so many CRK knives on the exchange, IMO a lot of the CRK fanatics like to buy up a lot of their knives out of impulse or a temporary infatuation. When that phase wears out they realize they spent too much money and so they sell them.

That's just my guess because when I got my first Sebenza, I actually had another one in the mail. Luckily that one was defective so I sent it back and got a refund instead. Shortly after I went through an Umnumzaan craze where I really wanted one. Luckily I didn't get it. Right now I'm perfectly happy with just one Sebenza, and if I were to spend that much money on another knife I'd get a strider or hinderer.

I had to put up a few of mine to offset the purchase of solo's raindrop regular that was one I've been after for over 3 years now!

I just sold my one and only small sebenza last week. I literally bought it brand new, got it in the mail, opened it up and immediately changed my mind and put it up on BF. I thought the thing was honestly a piece of art, and worth every penny though.

I know this sounds weird but I felt guilty owning a knife that cost me nearly $400 when I knew I had other expenses, and that I truly didn't "need" another knife. I also knew that there was no way I was going to force myself to use it, and I don't really want to hang onto knives I'm not going to use. Just a side note too: I bought the sebenza on a total impulse after reading these forums too much, and part of what made it so easy to buy was knowing that they are easy to resell if needed.

Ah! so it was you who got that raindrop, such a beautiful knife. I'll second on the glad i could help you out, but you have to post pictures when you get the raindrop :P

For the OP, i think it's mainly 2 things. 1. life happenings, and 2. funding some other knife(or other thing).

As to the original topic, lately I have been giving much thought to how the economy (which looks like it's going to get even worse in the coming years) is affecting Sebenza sales.

There does seem to be more than usual for sale secondhand. Lately people have also made posts complaining that CRK seems like they're not producing as many. There was a recent post entitled "Is Chris Reeve on strike?" for example, and the Wilson Combat Large Starbenza (which I was planning on ordering) was pushed back for delivery a month, maybe because there wasn't enough orders yet to do a run? Maybe there is not only an increase in the supply of secondhand Sebenzas, but also a decrease in demand for new Sebenzas.

I've also read people complaining about the newer Sebenzas, how the lock up bars go over too far now, poor fit and finish on the screws, etc. Maybe CRK has gotten "fat and happy" and doesn't feel like they need to try as hard. Chris Reeve is getting older too, I think he's bored with the Sebenza and has been for a long time. He seems more interested in his fixed blades, like the Harsey and that new kitchen knife they just came out with. Perhaps this is why some people have said negative things about Chris Reeve, maybe at the Blade 2011 show he was grouchy because sales were bad, plus old people are just grouchy in general, especially when they're in another city far from their home.

Ever since I've been collecting knives I've had a talent for identifying what knives are going to go up or down in value. I believe the price and demand for Sebenzas is going to come down even more as the economy continues to get worse and as the secondhand market continues to be flooded with these very durable knives. How many more people are out there with several NIB or lightly-used Sebenzas that have been sitting in their safes for years that will be sold in the coming months?

I have 2 Sebenzas, both early ones that I have carried and used a lot. One large and one small. Recently the large one developed what to me is an unacceptable amount of blade play. Keep in mind this knife is I believe from the early 90s and I have opened and closed it thousands of times. I will sit on the couch watching tv and open and close it, and while also while driving. It drives my wife nuts. But, and I would swear to this, I never flipped or flicked the knife open. I sent it back to see what they could do with it, and I dealt with Heather and ultimately with Anne Reeve. They could not have been nicer. They ended up replacing the lock side scale for free, with one they had in old stock, they also polished and sharpened it, no charge. Looks like a new knife. They did however mention that Mr Reeve had no doubt that the knife had been flipped and as I said it hasnt. I am happy with the knife and their service and confident that the knife will last for many more years. The implication that the knife was mis used did kind of leave a bad taste in my mouth however. I also wonder why I can flip my xm-18 all I want and it wont hurt it,(per Rick Hinderer) yet they seem to think it will ruin a sebenza?

I think it's just the sign of the bad times we are in now.

Some just have to sell what they can due to various reasons of what they are going through these days, job loss ect.

Wow, it's strange to hear more than one person say they had a negative experience with him. He always seemed so humble, in the Superman movies. I guess not everybody is like their character, in real life, though :-)

Why are there so many Sebz 4 sale? Honestly I think it's the great knife God's way of telling me I'm supposed to buy one.

Hahahaha that was a good one.

I have had a few sebenzas - and I traded or sold them all. Just as I did my SNG's. For me I see all the great YouTube reviews and get to thinking I need one. When I get it, I just look at it (it's hard to use a $400 knife). Then after a month of not using my EDC blade - I trade it or sell it. There great knives, but very expensive.

I'm actually NOT going to talk about Chris, since he's been a stand-up guy dealing with me (see what I did there? :D). I just want to say that I recently sold a Mnandi for economic reasons, that a year or so ago I would have hung on to. So, at least in my family, the economy IS reducing the number of CRKs in the house. :(

Come on guys, can't we all just get along? :D

There isn't a need to bicker amongst ourselves. Since when did stating your opinion about something or someone become so controversial? Whether you have something positive or negative (matter of opinion), to say about something or someone, you should be able to do so without having to explain your reasoning or without being put on a skewer. Someone asked a open question to members of the board and people gave their answers. Regardless of whether you like them or not, you should respect them and not go after some "witch hunt". Remember, there is always going to be two sides to the coin.

Is the economy really that bad people are selling their beloved Sebenzas?

I don't think so. Reading the reasonings on this thread makes me believe that people are choosing to put their money into something else, more so than the economy is affecting them.

While I thought that the fit and finish on the CRK folders were great and that they were very nice knives, I also thought that they were more or less pocket jewelery. In my humble opinion, they are no more useable as a knife than a Benchmade or Spyderco, and because of this I personally can't justify the cost of ownership. I guess I'm more of a "function over form" type of guy.

Of course you're not because you are saying what your issue was/is. In fact I remember your thread where you actually posted pictures of what you were upset about. So I don't think anyone in their right mind could call you a troll. It is pretty clear you got substandard service from CRK.

The OP wasn't trolling as he simply asked "why are there so many sebenzas for sale"?
We knew that TUF!

I don't know but I'm sure if I bought one I'd sell it too. Too expensive to do the exact same thing as my other knives. This thread has 4 pages with 73 replies (so says in the list of threads) and wont let me go to either 3 or 4. Just sends me to page 2. Whaaat?

My thread is magic! :D But there was a big argument between two individuals so maybe an admin deleted the post.
