at least in m state....hunting with a slingshot, using a snare....etc, etc. Ticks me off.....well that's it, not much of a thread just a little bxxch session on my part. thanks for listening.

Not a problem RR.
I know how NY can be. I have relatives in Upstate NY. They live in a rural area on a dairy farm.
I called NYSP before taking a handgun to see if it was even legal. The hoops one has to jump through to bring a handgun into that state are unreal. The only way to do it is to ship it to an FFL. Even then you must be registered to shoot in an NRA sanctioned event.
All I wanted to do was some plinking with my .22's.

So much for freedom, huh?

Unreal bro... Ilive within NYC limits and had to wait 9 months to get approved for a rifle and shotgun permit..when I was a kid growing up we just went to kmart and walked out with whatever we wanted.

visit belgium

evrything is illegal or practically impossible here

Yeah, give the people enough drink and they don't care one way or the other what's legal and what isn't.

hahaha

yeah it makes living here a bit doable

one of the most frustrating things i found about my visit to poland was that i cudnt just sat on a town square or park with a can of beer

i did once and sum cops bothered me asking my id card and other nonsense

The reason why much of these things are illegal is because they don't tend to make a clean and fast kill on the prey. Snares, traps etc while great for survival, have the capacity to induce hours or even days of pain onto the animal. This goes the same for small calibre hunting. Most .22 will not be allowed because they do not carry enough energy with them to "shock" the animal into instant death or incapacitation
Although lethal in the long run, it will wound the animal, and it could take hours to retrieve the animal, or even loose it when it beds down.
Slingshots can pack a punch, but only well placed hits causes incapacitation on vermints.
This doesn't mean that you could not train yourself in these techniques, just give your utmost care to lessen the suffering of the animal.

Come to AZ for a visit. We do have restrictions thiough. I do believe it is still unlawful to shoot an Indian from a moving train.

Here in Tennessee it is un-legal to hunt hogs with a boar spear or a knife. I don't think we have that train law though.

Riley, go south, young man, go south. If that has no appeal to you, go west. Buffalo, Wyoming, is the best place I've been.

Move to Maine; Handguns, shotguns, rifles, wristbraced slingshots, Bowie knives, Daggers, what have you...ALL legal. No snares though, but you can trap for bear, unlike the rest of the nation.

in South Dakota, a group of three or more Indians after dark can be declared a "war party" and shot on site. the law is still on the books.

I don't recommend it.

I hear you RescueRiley. These things may be illegal because:

-Real hunters and trappers were busy hunting and trapping when the 'do-gooders' were working at bringing the law in.

-A few irresponsible people gave these activities a bad name.

-Do-gooders are often more politically organised than hunters.

-Not enough responsible hunters/trappers spoke up when the matter was being debated, and if they did speak up, they didn't do it convincingly enough.

-Many of the people that make these rules have never harvested their own meat, have never had to protect crops or livestock, and probably live in areas where you don't even see much of this type of thing.

-Using these simple devices don't help to make big businesses more wealthy.

Half of me says "believe half of what you see and none of what you hear" and the other half says it is quite possible to have a crazy law like that on the books. I say go try it and see what happens. Just kidding.

Ha! And they think we are all mean old white men down South! :D

It wasn't all that long ago that England finally repealed the law that not only allowed the shooting of a Scotsman south of the border, but even paid a bounty when his body (actually just the head I think) was taken in to the constabulary!

England! - We can't do anything any more!

On a serious note, they are now trying to make swords illegal to own, and are well on the way to doing so with airguns.

They have come up with this "Violent Crime Reduction Act" to appeal to the moronic masses who think bits of metal jump up and kill people. I keep trying to convince people that it should read "Violent Criminal Reduction Act"; I could help out with that one if they let me!

If you look at your local regulations, it becomes clear the most effective means of hunting and fishing are also illegal. Jacking, gill netting and various types of trapping are scarily easy to do but also highly illegal in many areas. I always say there is a direct correlation between what works and what is legal. In a survival situation though, all bets are off and anything goes.
