Why are the Chris Reeve Knives 25th Anniversary Sebenza 2500$? Too expensive

It's a collectible with intrinsic value. That's what adds value. Besides this fact it's a regular plain Jane sebenza. It probably will hold its value over time because there are many crk collectors but you'll be lucky to break even because 2.5k is a lot for a knife and in that price range crk has stiff competition. Other customs will blow it out of the water for 2.5k. After all this is a midtech demanding a high end customs price. In terms of quality, materials, and build, the price isn't merited. Let's be honest at least about that crk fans. But the fact that it is an exclusive piece, that they are numbered, and that they commemorate 25 years definitely marks up price. If you pay 2500 then it is worth that to you but are you getting 2500 worth of knife? Hell no!

Is it worth it? Think about meat----. A Round steak is cut from the same cow as a Porterhouse. Both steaks give us nutrition, but the Porterhouse costs much more at the supermarket. Guess what? If the Porterhouse steaks were sitting on the shelf until they rotted, the price would drop. During the cholesterol awareness erra, doctors convinced people that Flank steak and Round steak were better for us than Ribeyeye's and Porterhouses. Well, the price of the fatter steaks went down, and the price of the leaner cuts went up. Think of everything you buy as an auction. If someone is willing to pay more than you are, than they set what the price is.

If I were a big collector and had the money then I would probably own several expensive knives. I own one CRK. For the broke people that buy knives to use.. $2,500 is crazy to spend on a knife. For the people that are more well off and are collectors then the Sebenza 25th Ann. is well worth the money.
I am a broke 20yr. old. but I in every single way feel the CRK Sebenza I bought for over $400 is well worth the money.

Now you may have opened up a whole 'nother can of worms with Picasso, especially as it relates to his attitudes about his favorite paintings, which he called his "children" and would not sell, and the "copies" that he knocked out (sometimes found in piles in the corner of his studio) for the suckers.;) The business of art and craft is never an easy one to figure out.
You can't just look at the sum of its parts and claim something is too expensive. Brand name is also a big factor. It's why millions of people pay $80+ for Nike sneakers with parts not worth more than 2$.

If people are happy to pay $350+ for CRKs, then that's what they are worth. If someone is willing to pay $23 million for a Picasso, then that's what that piece of canvas with paint on it is worth.

Excellant point. A lot depends on how difficult it is to earn the money.

At least with the knife you have something if it (your investment) takes a bath. What i want to see is someone make a user out of it :D

Someone on the Chris Reeve forum said they bought one of these and planned to use it. I'm having a hard time understanding that line of thinking. Isn't that like going to an auction and buying the sidearm George Washington carried because you need a pistol for target practice?

LMAO, nice analogy. He probably bought the $25k app the iphone used to have that was simply a dollar sign icon on your home screen. Why- because he can. Stupid rich DB's LOL

I would have thought a 25th anniversary knife would have some precious stones or metals inlaid...something to make the knife have more value other than "lol there are 25 of them". I can't believe people would buy one to use. Seems like a total waste of $2500 to use one.
