Why brick and mortar shops are failing....

I agree with everything. I haven't purchased a knife at a brick and mortar in over 8 years. Not planning to start anytime soon either. Why should I deal with MSRP prices and tax on top of that? I've saved hundreds of dollars over the years by using reliable sites like knifeworks/newgraham/etc.

Ditto, tax is the main dealbreaker for me.

By the way, who is that model in your avatar? So damn hot!

I guess I am one of the lucky ones to have a B&M store near me that sells at online prices. Bladerunner Knives in Tucson has a great selection of knives, swords, machetes, custom knives, sharpeners and just about anything I ever need in a knife store. This includes a very knowledgable owner who is glad to show you anything and give you the skinny on what's new or hard to get.
I have probably bought about 15% of my knives there. I collect mostly custom knives and have purchased some at such good prices you might accuse me of stealing. I don't set the price!
The owner takes great care of me and if I can get a knife I want in the store I do. Many prices are lower than online stores and if not they may be 5%-10% more. In my years of doing business there I have definately come out ahead.
Most of my customs I have purchased from the maker but there many Big name makers Bladerunner sells at extremely competitive prices.
I visit the B&M stores when I vacation and try to buy something to show my support. I have purchased knives at WeBeKnives in San Francisco on several trips. I am planning a driving trip to the east coast next month and will buy a knife at the newly remodeled New Graham Store as well as visiting SMKW in Tennesee
I appreciate being able to handle a knife before buying and don't generally have to pay extra for the privilege. Needless to say I avoid the Mall stores in the high rent districts. They usually have less knowledgable folks at the counter. Now is the time to support your local dealers.
