I've been seeing this for a while now and it always confuses me. I just saw it again in this thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=707425

What is the point of the seller bumping up the thread to announce the knife is sold? Just edit the first post and write that the knife is gone, there's no need to bring the thread back to the top just to announce that it's not available anymore.

It just makes everyone look at the thread again for no reason.
They should edit the first post to say it's sold and lock the thread. No need to bump it up top for announcing it's gone.

I think it can be a courtesy if there are several people who have offered to take it if the first arrangement does not work out.

Yes it is but there's no need to post a new post and unnecessarily bring the entire thread to the top again. You can edit the first post and lock the thread and let it stay down, where it's at. Bringing it to the top just clogs up the system and makes people open it again to see nothing is for sale.

Bingo...!

Not to mention that for no advantage you just pushed somebody's active sale thread further down the list.

Y'all summed up my thoughts:D I just edit the my post where ever they are when the deed is done and leave the thread be--you can always unlock and bump later if it doesn't work out.

I will sometimes make a new post marking an item sold with the name of the buyer if I am unsure of that buyer or if I have been getting a lot of e-mails/PM about an item. When I just edit my original post to mark something sold I almost always get a waive of correspondence asking me if it is sold yet.

i mostly i think it's just ignorance on posting protocol...though sometimes it's a "look at me, look at me" post...

+1 I just received an email about a Becker Crewman I sold over 2 years ago.

Same here...For one thing it lets all the people that have posted earlier with an email that it is gone...
