Why did you buy your first Busse knife?

Actually, that was only about a month ago. I got a Steel Heart-E.

I got a Busse because I love the idea of being able to use your knife for anything you want. To chop, dig, pry, slice, and "renovate" anything you want.

It's good to have a blade you can really count on, no matter what. I haven't even began to abuse mine, so all of my assumption is based on the "legend." Soon enough, it will be my number one fixed blade, and will go with me into the woods and on camping trips. I also like their simple, straightforward design.

Upon receiving my first Busse, I was impressed by the balance, the feel, of the knife.

I had heard they were bombproof. I read Cliff Stamp's testing of the BM and B7. I read other reviews. I researched more about what goes into a Busse knife. I saw the light :D

I waited a long time before buying my first Busse, so I knew quite a bit about Busse when I bought. I realized the following:

INFI steel is the best choice for a hard-use blade. Overall, IMHO, it is the best steel in the world (when combined, of course, with Busse's amazing heat and cryo treat).

Jerry uses well thought-out designs that are high-performance, tough, utalitarian, and innovative. No frills, just performance.

The man and the company behind these amazing blades is just as impressive. The warranty they support is unsurpassed, and gives you total freedom and peace-of-mind (even if you never even come close to damaging a Busse, like most of us). Also, Busse has worked hard to shorten order times, which has been highly successful. Busse has also strived to improve customer service, wich has also been highly successful. I have received amazing CS from Busse Combat. Jerry and Busse Combat do not rest on their laurels. They are constantly testing and improving Busse knives, and designing new models.

To me, the choice was clear ;) :D

Eric basically said it for me too, although "legend" wouldn't apply to me - it was a while ago - I wanted to see if the claims were true.
Despite a bit of hyperbole, which I put down to Jerry's inimitable sense of humour, the claims were, and are, true. I just regret that I didn't buy more of them years ago when they were available. I thought I was buying nuclear tough user alternatives to my expensive customs. I didn't know I was buying museum quality collateral for my mortgage :)

I had a microtech socom which I used a lot. One day the lock let go on me, cutting me into the bone. I decided in the ER that I was going to buy that new knife from busse combat, called the "Battle Misterss" which I had my eye on for a couple months. I don't think I even knew bladeforums existed back then. I bought the knife and almost nine months later It showed up at my door. I have beat that knife for a very long time and it is still in great shape.

I'm hoping to buy a Busse one of these days; I haven't seen one that I actually like yet. Maybe I'll buy the folder when it comes out.

I bet handling one would take care of that problem. Once you get one in your hands you really understand the "addiction" :D

I was trying to find the ultimate large camp knife but of all the blade choices I had seen and compared the Battle Mistress was the only one I hadn't handled (or seen) in person.
I had read a number of articles and reviews about Jerry's knives and was pretty much sold on the Battle Mistress...but again, I had never handled or seen anything other than pictures.

...so I ordered one to find out, end of story:D:p:D:p:D

As usual, Andrew gets on-line before me and beats me to the post. Andrew, you said just about everything that I wanted to say.

I had other knives for various tasks and just wanted a utilitarian chopping, cutting, diggiing, prying, whatever knive that I would not have to worry over and that had a company that would not ask questions if/when the need arose for the knife to get refreshed, repaired or replaced. I settled on Busse and have not only never looked back ... but kept/keep buying!

I was turned on to Busse by first watching the Cold Steel video. It was the first time I saw knives that could really indure some real abuse. I became a Cold Steel fan. Then my interest was peeked by an article they ran about comparing apples to oranges.

After reading the article, I tried finding some info on the net about Busse knives. Knife forums was the only place on the net to discuss knives. I heard all kinds of good things about the Busse Company, except that people had been waiting months to years to receive their knives.

Still I waited, till Busse introduced the the Basic line. Then I bought the Basic 5. I made a promise that I would test both my Master Hunter and Basic 5, till one of them broke. :D

Anyone want to guess who won???:D

P.S. I am really glad Busse stopped making the Basic line. Why you may ask? Because fewer people know about Busses. More for the rest of us.:D

Bravado, Eric was right....

I was sick of using knives that did not quite cut it for me (excuse the pun..);) I had really had enough so researched Busse products and started to visit this forum (and even read all the post and reviews on Busse knives). This led me -by luck and a lil help- to purchase an NO. It was everything I had ever dreamed of. Quality, looks, toughness and exactly the right size and weight. I should have brought one ages ago!

I will admit, I was a bit doubtfull about the product living up to the hype, but, when I received it, like Eric said, you can really start to understand the addiction. In the last 3 weeks I have purchased 3 Busse's. An NO, AS and a Mojo. I am working on an SJ-CG and a Euro Caretaker at present....there will be more, I know it!:D ;)

"Once ya buy one, there ain't no turnin back"...

Two words:

(Bless his little knife-bustin' soul!! :D:D:D)

I had read various reports on the web about Busse knives, but it was Cliff's review of the BM that convinced me to part with the isanely extravagant amount of money (in my mind at that time) needed to buy a Busse. They were easily the most expensive blades I'd ever bought, costing about six times more than any other blade I'd bought to that point in time. The other deciding factor was Mike Turber's shoot-out between the Basic 9 and CS Trailmaster, which confirmed my suspicions that these Busse knives were probably worth the asking price. Once I had one, I recognized what a great deal they really represent and that, as with so many things in life, "You get what you pay for!!" Only in this case, I had gotten a whole lot more.

Many Busses and way too much disposable income disposed of in Busses later, I find that a Busse (albeit a variant) is still the most expensive knife I've ever bought. And I don't doubt for a second that it will amaze me all over again with the amount of value Jerry delivers per dollar spent.

BTW fellas, when the Mrs complains about the amount of money being sent to the Wauseon shop for INFI, just remind her how equally easy and more expensive it would be to take up betting on the horses, buying exotic sports cars (esp effective if you are at mid-life crisis age ;)), or chasing wild women. Busses will suddenly look like a good choice.

Well a Rat was actually my gateway knife to Busse. But I wanted the best so...

To be more specific I had 2 trees in my backyard that needed to be removed. So I took a few blades with me and started to hack off the limbs, attack the trunk, and finally chop things into nice lengths for disposal. Well all of the blades I used had chunks of steel blow out of them. Granted they may not have been made for heavy chopping (they were more for sd) but I wanted a knife that was nuclear tough as well. So that led me here and now I am a happy man. ;)

Heard about 'em and was impressed with the SRKWs RatWeiler I already had. Prices scared me away for a while... Then the BATACS came up for sale and I ordered a few... Then, the snowball turned into an avalanche quickly!!

My intro to Busse knives was only a couple of months ago. I was looking for the 'ultimate' knife; one I could use and abuse without concern. It also had to be highly functional, comfortable to use and aesthetically pleasing. Busse knives fit the bill and then some. I appreciate quality tools and take great pleasure from owning and using them.

Everything I read on this forum made me take the plunge on an FBM. It was a close call between that and a Fehrman Final Justice, I'll admit. I would still like the FJ to compare to the FBM. I'll get it one day.

The price might be high, but quality costs. No matter what I'm buying, I would rather spend more money on something that's right, than buy cheap and regret it or have to replace it quickly. Busse knives, by all accounts, should outlast their owners. That'll do for me.

Rick.
