Why Buy A Buck Brahma?

Here are my minor tweaks to the 117: A 5th black band at the pommel, thumb notches, and a small blood groove. Thanks Buck Knives!

One thing that concerns me about this series is the round handle. I love the feel of the standard Buck handle. Because of the shape, you can change your grip and you always know where the edge is.

I do like 5160. Dry climate and have had no rust.

I believe there are other knives that are better suited to eviscerate an animal than the Brahma 117 or 119 since the untreated leather will absorb blood and will start to smell. Use of Buck's phenolic handles is more suited.

I have worked with different steels and heat treating but this was some time ago. There wasn't all the fancy numbered steels, stainless or carbon. Keeping moisture absorbing packets with your knives doesn't hurt, I have my knives in cases so a couple packets in each takes away one thing to worry about.

I don't know about that, I have a stacked leather handled knife that is over 50yrs old and seen a lot of blood and no smell.

Can any of you "brahma" owners confirm if it has a true 90 degree spine? The traditional 119's all have the rounded spine from the factory, but pictures look like the brahma is left perfectly square? Any help would be appreciated.

You dredged up a 4 month old thread... better to start a new one so people don't have to wade thru 4 pages to find your question.
That said, I'm not sure what you are asking, 119's don't have a rounded spine.

I would think it would be about the same as the 119. Some do have a slight oval to them, (getting picky). DM

Still confused, are we talking lengthwise or cross section? Couldn't find a single one that was not square in cross section.

I don't own a Brahma, but I'm going to assume the spine is the same as a 119, or 120 or 124. They aren't exactly rounded, but they do all have the edges knocked off them. They aren't a perfect, sharp edged 90 degree spine, as they aren't intended to be used with a ferro rod or for scraping.

Hope that helps.
