Why can't Spyderco make a knife that is as good as the Kershaw Leek and in...

Is anyone else seeing this? I'm dumbfounded by this guy.

Riley, you are not alone, lol. Reminds me I need to get another Delica.

I am especially entertained by the notion that price has anything to do with "iconic status".

I do need an FFG delica.
If price is his thing I picked this guy up for $23 off the exchange

For that price I think that they are and it's more like $66 but whatever.

Hi Mikael, I am a bit dubious about the sincerity of your line of questioning, but in the interest of good sportsmanship I will respond. Spyderco advertises their knives at full MSRP so as not to compete with their dealers. All of their authorized dealers buy directly from them and can sell the knives at up to 40% off MSRP. Most online dealers choose to sell Spydercos at the full 40% discount. Hope that clears up your confusion. Welcome to the forum. :)

I'm actually kind of shocked by this. I've never considered a spyderco, I think it is ugly and rather unfitting for my needs. But then the Delica is not in competition with the leek, completely different profiles and functions. I certainly wouldn't put either one into "iconic" status. I'd never heard of the Delica until this thread. I've owned many Kershaws, and the Leek became my favorite, but it was the one I ended with, not the one I began with. In the price range, $50-$150, I think they are all pretty much the same, you get a fine knife that works for your own needs. The quality from one to the next is not so significant as to completely discount any one brand, with exceptions. Above that, $150+, you get into a bit of exclusivity that really prevents knives from becoming mainstream. Sure there are some that are well known in the knife world, but none that would attract interest to common folk.

You want an iconic knife? Swiss Army, Buck, Case, Old Timer, KaBar. The brands are iconic and a few of their blades. Any discussion of "iconic" knives inside a specific brand is going to come down to fandom for that particular maker or specific knife. May as well debate 9mm vs .45acp.

First let me say I'm not a big Case fan. However here in Sweet Home Alabama Case pocket knives out number Kershaw and Spyderco by far. For millions of people when you say "pocket knife" they think Case in all its forms. I am a big Spyderco fan and am shocked by all the people I meet who have never heard of them. Kershaw meh, cheap prices mean volume sales. I have a dozen or so Kershaws and a couple of ZT's. My favorite Kershaws are the really low priced Chinese made models. No Leeks, never understood thier popularity. Iconic, NOT!

...the same price range?

Everybody owns a Kershaw Leek, it's iconic and you can even get one in 24K gold for $99.99 so why hasn't any Spyderco knife achieved the same iconic status?

Did I mention that it's iconic? :p

Get real dude.

Spyderco has like, 20 models, like are as Iconic as anything Kershaw has put out.

I'm not trying to say Kershaw isn't the shiz, but Spyderco is pretty legendary in the cutlery industry.

Hi Mikael,
I'm not sure what it is that we (Spyderco) have done to offend you so, but it's curious that (literally) all of your posts are either negative or passive aggressive against us. If you'd like to share how it is that we've wronged you please do. We'd be happy to address it and move on.

There is a wealth of information available on this forum. There are thousands of people who are passionate about knives and they're some of the best people you'll never meet face-to-face (sometimes you get lucky though and get to put a face with a name). I welcome you to BladeForums. I sincerely hope your desire to join this forum was for more than just agress upon Spyderco.

He's getting an early jump!!!
Guy joins a knife forum and fhe first thing he does is post garbage to ruffle feathers. He knows nothing, quoting MSRP as the price of a knife.....really??
Either 14 years old or a VERY bored individual.
Misssster Andersssssson.....don't go away mad, just put an egg in your shoe and beat it.

Pure class. Thank you for reminding us all how a call out should be done. I'm very lucky that you folks make fantastic cutting tools at a great value as that gives me an opportunity to maintain my facade of brand agnosticism instead of just buying from you due to your professional ethics, all around class and transparency.

For everyone's sake, start a trolling thread on another forum.

You're not going to run out of snide comments to everyone who's a Spyderco lover/fan.

Try to just hang out this forum for a while and learn something about Spyderco knives without trying to be a pain in

the Axx.

It's very unusual for someone with only 16 posts and less than 1 month on BF to be Trolling.

Does this mean we can expect more or the same from you or why not try to Contribute like a lot of us do on BF.
