Why can't Spyderco make a knife that is as good as the Kershaw Leek and in...

Hi Mikael, I am a bit dubious about the sincerity of your line of questioning, but in the interest of good sportsmanship I will respond. Spyderco advertises their knives at full MSRP so as not to compete with their dealers. All of their authorized dealers buy directly from them and can sell the knives at up to 40% off MSRP. Most online dealers choose to sell Spydercos at the full 40% discount. Hope that clears up your confusion. Welcome to the forum. :)

Ok and thanks for the welcome.

So where can I find that small Sebenza 21 for $210? (40% off)

...the same price range?

Everybody owns a Kershaw Leek, it's iconic and you can even get one in 24K gold for $99.99 so why hasn't any Spyderco knife achieved the same iconic status?

Did I mention that it's iconic? :p

Mikail: will you please answer the questions, in that other negative GBU thread you started against Spyderco:

"Spyderco knives below $100 these days are just chinese made crap."

"The Kershaw Leek is a $40 to $50 knife (yes you can find it for slightly cheaper on Amazon) that is made in the USA and it is vastly superior to Spyderco knives in the same price range."v

^I'm very curious as to why, a literally brand new member would join BF's & the very first thing that he posts, is a contentious thread in the GBU, making these type of statements? Then, you followed my suggestion & bring your trolling here in Spyderco's sub-forum.

Welcome to BladeForums!

Hi Mikael,
I'm not sure what it is that we (Spyderco) have done to offend you so, but it's curious that (literally) all of your posts are either negative or passive aggressive against us. If you'd like to share how it is that we've wronged you please do. We'd be happy to address it and move on.

There is a wealth of information available on this forum. There are thousands of people who are passionate about knives and they're some of the best people you'll never meet face-to-face (sometimes you get lucky though and get to put a face with a name). I welcome you to BladeForums. I sincerely hope your desire to join this forum was for more than just agress upon Spyderco.

Kristi

One of the best replies I have seen in some time. No wonder I like their knives, they seem to hire great people.

It shouldn't be long before one of our mods closes this thread down because the OP started a trolling thread.:(

Ah ha! I figured you had to be new to this game. Long ways to go, friend.

I hate to be indelicate, but there's significant evidence this isn't ignorance. He's questioned the price difference between the Delica and Leek, but quoted the MSRP of the Delica and only the street price of the Leek. Then he stated getting a Delica for 40% off MSRP must mean that it's a counterfeit without any mention of the fact that the Leek he so loves is closer to 60% off MSRP at the price he mentioned.

I try (and frequently fail) to abide by the principal of charity, but everything he's posted smacks of an agenda.

I don't own a Kershaw leek. Personally I'm not impressed by their quality. OP you have 17 posts and your bashing bladehq which is a bladeforums dealer and spyderco ,which Sal and crew are the best in the business when it comes to giving the customer what they want and taking care of them.

If your mad at spyderco because you bought a counterfeit off eBay and it broke this morning so you decide to do this it's bad form. People don't lash out at spyderco like this because Spyderco will go out of their way to help you ,if you just act like you have a half a brain and a little bit of common sense . Clearly you have neither and I'm moving along . Little bit of advice though might not want to bash a dealer here you have 0 experience with. Good way to get shown the door.

Had a Leek. Got rid of it. I have three Delicas. Kershaw = good. Spyderco = great. MA = Troll.

I too have 1 leek and 3 delicas, there is no competition there at all. My blue delica is in my top 2 most carried knives right next to my BM 707. Being around $65 the delica feels like a steal, I would definitely pay more for one but spyderco being as awesome as they are make their blades a great bang for the buck. The leek on the other hand is assisted which is just annoying and has a tip that feels like it will snap off cutting butter.

Is that so?

And there must be some pretty good profit margins when a product can be sold at 40% below the MSRP.

From where are you buying your counterfeit leeks then?

Kershaw leek. Msrp 109.95, selling for 70.95 on BHQ. Roughly 36% discount......... Cute retaliation.

And the post above is at 40% discount over "msrp".

This is silly but I will entertain. Iconic is subjective and both companies have knives with loyal followings and both companies make knives that represent what they do best.

The Leek is a good knife. I have one and like it. I would carry it more but I dislike assisted openers. It has been a steady seller for Kershaw for a long time and I see many people who are not knife geeks carrying it. I think it is fair to call it an iconic knife for Kershaw. Comparing levels of iconicness is subjective and unnecessary. I have a D2 composite Leek and a Super Blue Delica4 which are similar and I think I paid about the same for both of them. Seems like they are similar enough to me.

MA, my advice to you is to try to argue and bash less and to try and learn more. Your comments about fakes and pricing makes you seem less knowledgeable about knives than many of the forumites on here. These are good people on here who enjoy knives and like discussing them. Nobody wants to argue with you but you brought the bad attitude. There is much to be learned on these pages and there are many who are eager to share so maybe you could read more and post less until you figure this place out a little better. If you like Kershaw so much why don't you head over to a Kershaw forum and share that there instead of antagonizing the forumites here?

How about we treat the thread and Mr. Anderson as if the thread and Mr. Anderson aren't troll related? No reason to devolve down to the level of name calling, even if you feel you need to defend one of my favorite companies. We are better people than that;)

What Mr. Anderson would you like to know about Spyderco and their folders?
I started collecting Spyderco folders a little over a year ago but if I can help answer a question I will as will many others.

I picked up my 2 of my Manix 2s (I had 3 total but my brother loved my satin G10 version so much he took it as a Bday present) last year for $71 and $85, quite a bit less than $100. They're both made in the US. The fit and finish are superb and they came crazy sharp. Machining takes money and frame or liner locks are the cheapest lock mechanisms to make, that explains the extra cost for the most part. Add to it that my Manix 2s have G10 scales over top of stainless liners while the Leek has just the stainless steel frame. If you have any further questions I'd be happey to try and answer them.
