why did buck change

I think they did it because a lot of people break the tips off of the originals. Also, the people buying them are used to "tactical" knives that have thick tips and a more "tactical" look, so thats what they want. Frankly, I think they should have given these new knives a different model number. The knives bear no resemblance to the 110 or 112. They changed everything about them, except the model number. Lol
Its the slim version. Buck should call this a 110.

I agree that the model name is different, 112 slim. It’s not confusing to me and if you look at the first model 112 compared to the current 112s being made you can see subtle differences over time but still very similar.

I also notice that the models 110/112 have other descriptive differences such as pro, lite, slim, auto and so on.

I don’t think that it’s necessary to have a different model number as long as it has a suffix or something added to the number to differentiate the type or style.

I also think the blade shape and design was changed to meet the type of utility it would most likely be used for and general consumer preference. There’s plenty of choices of several models throughout Buck knives and they simply can’t accommodate every individual preference or desire but I think they do a great job of filling most of our needs and try to fill our desires with these offerings the best they can.

Agreed and well said.

I'm fairly certain that the blade geometry is the same down thru the years..I like it and I'm sure I'll use it for a few Custom 112's I plan to commission in the next couple of years. Because it's so distinctive..

leave it alone. it was perfect the way it was.
I was thinking that about the handle thickness. Put the textured material on there, even up near the blade rather than the slick brass near the blade, but leave the handle full and thick.

I got all excited when I saw the canvas micarta 110; then I saw the handle thickness was 0.40" and I took it out of my cart. My regular 110 is 0.62"; now that's a knife ! ! !

The thin thing is just another thin thing, along with all the plethora of other thin things.
The killer is the lock bar release is on the tail end. Mid back is better or I might have added spacers to a thin one behind the canvas micarta. Oh well.

As far as blade shape I prefer the spear point or something leaning that way over the stock blade shape.
