Why do Fallkniven knives chip so easily?

Have you ever heard of a single instance where Fallkniven has done that or are you just convinced it might happen? I have grave doubts that Fallkniven would have its stellar reputation if that were a common occurrence.

I remember a case with an English customer, who broke off 2mm of the tip, on his new F1.
He didn't go through the vendor, but sent the knife directly to Fällkniven HQ.
I asked Peter about that particular F1, as it was another "story" on the site's.
Fällkniven couldn't find anything wrong with the knife and resharpened the knife for free and sent it back to the customer.

So Fällkniven doesn't automatically send out a new knife under warranty, unless it's a fabrication error.
If they see it as a user error, they will not replace the knife, as the warranty doesn't cover user-errors.

Mikael

There are few stories like this but it does happen. One guy had his knife sent back to Falk and then to Japan for inspection before it was replaced! That's a lot of hoopla for a top dollar blade. Esee would just send you a new knife...

Well, this has turned into a Fallkniven "bashing by insinuation" thread if that didn't happen long ago. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Sorry that is the way you see it. I sure don't. I think we are having a good discussion. Both sides are making good points. There are not a lot of true failures out there of Falknivens. That is a testament to the quality. Mikael and others have made very valid points about factory edges and the fact that a manufacturing problem would show up within 2 years on a knife that is used properly. I don't care for the 2 year warranty or the multiple country, dealer return process. Lots of things to consider here. All of what I said is my opinion and I stand by it 100%. People buy what they like for the reasons they like it. I think that is what we are sharing here, is it not?

Mikael and I have talked about this in a couple other threads before. And we don't agree. That said, If you noticed he brought up the very example I was linking to before I had a chance. Now that is great discourse!

You have made your case effectively, craytab. I don't see eye to eye with you but that's fine. I did object to the "great companies stand behind their products 100%" comment, though. That seems to imply Fallkniven should not be considered a great knife company as you have clearly disparaged their warranty on this thread. Sorry if I misinterpreted your intent. Cheers.

Facts are facts and sometimes they sounds good and sometimes they don't, but You can rely on that I always talk about facts in the first place!
My subjective opinions are also clear and Fällkniven is the number one brand in my knifeinventory.
This is based on the empiric facts I have got, after using them on a 24/7 schedule since 2007.

Here's a new pic of my NL2 and the stone the tip hit last summer.

The NL's have really impressed me and they are everything Peter has claimed them to be, so what's not to like!

I've only owned my NL5 (Idun) and my PXL for a short while but they are quickly becoming two of my very favorites. Time will tell but I think I'm a good enough judge of knife quality to predict that I will be completely satisfied. Hopefully I'll discover any defects within two years, though. :D

It has seen the hardest of use at my work as a kitchen carpenter and passed with flying colors!

Why do Fallkniven knives chip so easily?

This whole topic is quite overblown.

Fallkniven has an excellent reputation for building some of the worlds best survival knives.

Real cutting tools designed to slice, that are still very tough; Serious Knives, not just sharpened pry-bars.

Sure, some folks have a problem with one now and then, same as any other mass produced product; others have torture tested them to destruction with amazing results; Fallkniven did not garner such are large following of dedicated outdoors-man and survival experts by making an inferior product.

Only the end-user can decide is any knife is the right tool for them.

Don't be scared away from buying one because you believe everything you read on the internet.
