I like the first couple in that series but it goes downhill after that.

Have you read his Arthur series that begins with Winter King? Its excellent and more importantly.... there are axes.

No, unfortunately i haven't yet. I read the first couple of the Grail Quest series about the archer but wasn't enamored with it and have strayed from Cornwell. I will check it out from your recommendation. Thanks!
