Why do knife snobs hate SOG???

This thread is obviously for ignorant people. Almost every knife company will have snobs hating on their product but this is ridiculous and full of false information. Sog was founded in 1986 in order to recreate the original sog bowie knife so yes the design was copied just as kabar and other companies copied the original kabar knife. However that does not stop me from liking this company.

Next people complain about Aus8 steel. For people who dislike it, then buy something else because it is a good option for people who are newer to knives. It gets extremely sharp and it sharpens easily. It also is more rust resistant so people don't have to worry about taking care of their knife as much.

Then people are complaining about zytel? I like the glass reinforced nylon for the following reasons. It is very grippy since sog has a nice texturing on the handles. It is light weight, which is a pro. And it makes the knifes price cheaper.

For all of you idiots in the world, one knife was not made to do everything. Sog has different knives for different categories. For example the sog force is an excellent choice for the outdoors and the sog seal pup is an excellent tactical knife. So don't expect the knives to perform outstandingly in something they were not made to do.

Sog also has excellent customer service and as i've seen on this site alone, chris replies to peoples questions and tries to help the best he can.

Sog knives are sharp, durable, light weight, cheap, and are more resistant to rust. Yes their assisted opening knives have blade wiggle... Crazy right, but if that stops you from buying one of their knives then you are crazy. Also again for the idiots, not all of the knives are made in taiwan. Some are made in america like the aegis, trident, flash, and twitch and some are also made in japan. As for the whole navy seal deal, the navy seals were holding a contest for who could make a knife suitable for the seals. Sog competed using the seal 2000 knife and won 2nd place due to the many outstanding qualities. So i'm sure there are seals that do use the sog seal.

Now for all of you snobs, there are good and bad knives from every company. Sog is very good and i've had very nice results from their products.

So how long have you been working for SOG?

People don't complain about SOG using AUS-8 so much as complaining about SOG using AUS-8 and charging like they're using VG-10 or S30V.

I am new to knives and found the bump very interesting. So far, my collection includes Syderco, Kershaw and Benchmade. I have looked at SOG, but have not really wanted to buy one. The value issue has been on my mind and to read others take on that is useful to me. Glad I found this forum.

I've owned 1 sog folder... The pentagon elite II.... It was like 5" long and pretty clumsy.... I have handled a lot of flashes and they were cool except for the fact that they always had a lot of blade play.... SOG fixed blades on the other hand, are a force to be reckoned with! This is an old SOG Tigershark with the 440 steel. Made in Japan... I have had this knife for about 10 years. I used it as a camp knife for a while, then somehow it became a throwing knife for a few years(into eucalyptus logs). The kraton handle broke off So I gave it a nice wrap instead. This thing is a beast! Never once did the tip show any signs of damage. I resharpened it and gave it a super keen edge. What I really like about it is now I know how to throw it accurately from 10 yards.

Their best steel is AUS-8. That's it for me. Plus they stopped making stuff in Seki.

I own a lot of knives. .. Spyderco, ZT, Benchmade, Brous, Strider, and a few Sogs along the way. I haven't liked all of the Sogs, but I love my tanto Vulcan and my st 06 auto. I haven't loved every spyderco I've ever owned either.

I'm neither a knife snob, nor do I hate SOG knives. It takes too much energy to hate anyone or anything. And Life is to precious to spend a part of it engaged in the state of hate.

The Vulcan and Min-Vulcans are pretty good knives no matter what the haters say.

Had not read anywhere that SOG has stopped having knives (any model) in Seki Japan. Something I will have to look into as their Seki blades are generally the best ones, typically VG-10.

I consider myself somewhat a knife snob, but still own a couple of SOGs. I like some of their designs and have never had a problem with them. My first entry in to the tactical folder world was with a Sog Jetedge II.

I can care less about steel types, that ongoing trend is just silly, especially with the basic end user who can't tell the difference between most of them, other than what's stamped on the blade.

SOG annoyed me with the Endura clone controversy a few years back...and most of their designs just don't appeal to me.

You get 10 out of 10 for intellectual and emotional intelligence, Ace.

LOL this thread prompted me to go find another full sized Vulcan and order it.

Good job, Kris. The Vulcans are great knives.

I'm not a SOG hater by any means, but comparing SOG to ZT or Benchmade is like comparing a Ford Mustang to a Porsche 911. You may like the looks of the Mustang better, but the Porsche costs more because it is constructed of superior materials, and of a superior design.

Out of 40 or so folders I have one SOG a Visionary 2 which is a very nice knife.
Love the blade shape, takes a nice edge, VG-10 Seki, she rips through cardboard like crazy.

Cheers

Sog Pentagon Elite II

5" long x .160 thick, Seki Japan made VG-10 steel blade.

Arc lock. Exceptionally smooth, strong, solid and reliable lock.

Pretty good as far as I'm concerned.
