Why do "LBK" people look down on people who like larger knives?

People carry what they like and are comfortable using. The small ones have their place. Me, I look down on anyone who looks down on somebody who likes SAKs. This is a non issue to me.

There it is. I look down on anyone who looks down on anyone.

Did a search for a dragonfly and it looks like a nice little knife. I carry a big knife while working (sometimes) and a small knife other times.

One quick question. If it is the grip size full hand vs 3 finger, why isn't the DPx Heat a more popular knife?
Short, stout blade w/ good geometry, variety of steels and scales, good build quality.

It has to be something aside from grip size as the primary deciding factor.

I'm 6'2" but still usually carry smallish knives. For years my EDC was a spyderco copilot. I've now migrated to larger knives and have been carrying knives as large as a strider. To me it's always a compromise, larger knives feel better in the hand but smaller knives feel better in the pocket. I carry in the right front pocket but have been exploring other options. I now sometimes carry a spyderco police inside the waistband on my right hip with great success. Still not to the point of carrying a large Cold Steel Rajah like a 5'6" coworker....true :-)

Not to offend anyone but I have a little phrase that I say to myself whenever I see something that maybe doesn't set just right for me - "different streets for different freaks". We all have different size hands and environments for which we have valid reasons for carrying what we do with the bottom line is being comforatble in our own shoes.

I'm probably wrong but I sometimes feel that LBK(little big knife) people look down.on us people who prefer bigger knives. Any thoughts, feedback, or violent reactions?

If I understand your question.

I am one who EDC's at least 2 [ usually 3 ] blades.

Right now they are
1-SAK
2-Essential Bark River [ fixed blade]
3-Benchmade 710
4-slipjoint Case etc.

I prefer a larger blade and feel that it can do ALL a smaller blade can,NOT the other way around .

But for most tasks I use the smaller blade, and reserve the larger one for 'social' purposes [ anti dog & personal ].

In the woods & hunting I carry at least 2 fixed bladed,4" and 6".

Best thing to do is NOT worry about what others think of you, good or bad. Certainly don't worry about what they think of your knife, one way or the other.

Be honest, honorable, and ethical, and screw what others think either looking up to you or down on you.

I really don't care what someone thinks of a knife I carry and certainly not what they think of me for carrying it. There are SO MANY MORE IMPORTANT things in life to concern myself with and to influence.

Yes sir, well said.

People like what they like and think what they like is best.

And we come here to talk about what we like/think is best.

Its not "snobbery," its the essence of what goes on here.

There are always few people like that, but looking down on someone who likes a different style/size of knife is just plain ignorant. Those kind of people have no place here, and frankly add little value to our community.

I generally prefer smaller blades. I carry a Vixtorinox Farmer most often inside the city limits, and rely on a pretty modest Mora when at the hunting camp or in the boat.

Every now and then though a big damn knife just catches my fancy and I have to have it. I am pining for a BK9 at the moment. I dropped some very not so subtle hints to the wife so I am hoping it's under my Christmas tree right now. If not I might just have to buy it after the new year.

Bk4 might still be on sale, look around.

While I have reviewed bunches of knives, I own mostly small folders. For the the LBK mentality comes from a position of use. I have not found a good reason, in my suburban life, to carry a big folder. If I need a big knife I'd rather have a fixed blade. So I guess its not so much looking down on folks that EDC big folders, but a curiosity about it.

That said, I am glad we can carry what we want.

Lately I've been carrying a zt0561 And a Kershaw cryo, and I always keep the first folder i got in my boot. Its a buck 290 with a broken blade that's like 1"½ now

I think there is room at the table for all as far a knife preference goes. It's all about what'll serve your needs and that you like to have with you. I think most would agree it also depends on the circumstances. What I'm doing at the time can influence what knife, or knives, I decide to bring along.

I will admit to kind of frowning upon the "mall ninja" guys with those huge off-shore knives in weird designs strolling through the crowds. I think it gives the non-knifers a bad taste of what actual knife guys are all about.

Whatever is one's fancy with knives is fine with me be it long or short, but I'm turned off by anyone speaks out against knives.

I also frown a bit with the mall ninja stuff. It is mostly younger folks who buy this stuff or probably the cheaper stuff. But they are also developing their knife interest too. Things evolve. They do for most of us.

I really don't care what knives people carry, I just subscribe to size does not matter when I think about EDC. Unless your job is cutting sugar cane and skinning/gutting buffalo, what's the point in EDC if you're going to carry a monster sized folder, or a gargantuan Bowie knife?

I thought that big/modern/titanium people look down own "LBK" people.. or maybe not, but maybe it's more about point of view really.

Personally I never understood any kind of knife snobbery, which definitely exist but isn't very present here. Fixed blade vs folders, mid-tech vs handmade, stainless vs carbon, production vs custom... there is a knife for every situation and a situation for every knife.

Exactly.

Knives are knives. In the end they are a tool that we use to accomplish certain tasks. I myself am a life long SAK user, but I also use a Kershaw Cryo as an EDC and my SAK on my key ring in case I forget the Kershaw or need a little more utility.

I don't look down on anyone else's preferences, in fact I get really envious at everyone's collection here! Long time lurker, and joined to post this reply.
