So tell me, exactly what are you gonna do when your FAMILY is anti-gun (like mine)? See my situation now? I can't have guns, or own guns because my family is ANTI-GUN. Would I consider a gun? Most definately.
Lakan, that's a fair question.
So I gather your a young guy who still lives at home with parents that are anti gun. Okay, it happens, but that doesn't mean you have to go about unarmed. If you are carrying a knife like yours with most of the motivation being defense use, let me give you this thought; if you are seriously questioning how to be safe, get some training. Real training from a professional. Krav Maga is a great lace to start, and with training you can branch out to improvised weapons. We are surrounded in our everyday lives by all kinds of very effective weapons that will outstrip a knife for ending a threat immediately. If you like knives fine. I've been a knife nut my whole life, and even collected randall's for a while. But I just never thought of them as a self defense weapon because we had treaty training at an early age, plus what was taught in the army.
There are lots of places that you will not be able to carry your knife. Flying off someplace on vacation, court house, college campus, sports venues. But you can be very well armed. It's amazing what damage can be done with a all steel pen, butt end of a AA mini maglight, large D cell Maglight, tire pressure gauge, a padlock with a bandana through the shackle, crescent wrench, ball peen hammer, can of chill in a cloth shopping bag, stout walking stick/cane, fireplace poker, fire extinguisher, bar stool, chair, end table, mop handle, hiking stick, beer pitcher, beer bottle, screw driver, and whatever is at hand. Blunt force trauma works faster ending a fight than cutting someone, and it's a heck of a lot less legal haste when the dust settles.
I grew up in Washington D.C., and later in the suburbs of it. We had this scoutmaster of our scout troop that was an old WW2 mud Marine. Mr. Van. After an incident where one of ur scouts was roughed up by a local yokel, he had training seasons with what he called improvised weapons. It was eye opening. You say you work in a gas station. Then you have an amazing array of tools on hand that are wicked. The tire pressure gauge is a very effective force multiplier when it collides with the jaw hinge, mastoid gland area or throat. A medium adjustable wrench is a wicked wrist and hand bones breaker. Either is explained by your job. But
use a large bowie or military style fighting knife on someone, and your'e going to be in deep hot soup.
Laken, it's okay be concerned with your safety, we do live in a dangerous and rapidly changing world. But it's a world run by the inmates of the asylum, and insane rules and political correctness are in place. You need to think of something called plausible deniability. Project yourself as the innocent victim that just happen to use something from his everyday working life to defend himself. get some serious training in Krav Maga, and use a blunt force impact tool for defense. Leave the knives for everyday utility.
If you must use a knife for defense, you don't need a very big one. Google the 'pork man' test to see what even a small box cutter can do.
