Why do office people freak?

When they see a clip in your pocket? I've been told that I can't carry a "weapon", which in this case was an Endura 4.

The company policy is that no weapons can be brought in to work. So what about the 6" chef knife, along with other assorted kitchen implements in the break room. If I was going to go postal, I'd just use one of those, better to use a 6" fixed blade for a rampage than a 3" folder!

So, unless we are searched before coming in to work, and all potential weapons are removed from the office (I can thing of 10 common things just laying around deadlier than my little pocket knife) this is a ridiculous policy.

Some lawyers trying to cover their bases I guess.

More "wussification" of America IMO. Unfortunately, You will most likely have to comply or simply keep it hidden.

I have the same "no weapon" policy at my work, although I've never had anyone say anything about any of my knives it is still rather stupid. If they ever do say anything I will just argue that to me a knife is a tool and not a weapon and that I feel sorry for them for thinking of knives as weapons

I don't think I've ever been in a position where knives were discouraged to the point where you would be fired for carrying one. I'm not sure I could work in a place like that. Even if I tried, clipping a knife in my pocket is second nature. I find myself lost if I don't have my knife or flashlight on me.

I had someone mention something like that to me. Once. I took them into the break room, opened the drawer, took all the knives out (some over 10 inches), then put my Caly 3 next to them.

They felt pretty stupid.

It's as useless as the UK knife law, you can go down to the hardware store and get an 18" piece of pipe, but a locking blade is outlawed.

Two guys square off, one with a pipe, and one with a knife, I'll put my money on the pipe guy 10 times out of 10.

I guess the few workers who went postal ruined it for the rest of us.

If this ever happens at my job I will challenge it. If I would lose, I would still carry it. It's my right to own and carry a knife. For God's sake people (not you people on the forum) it's a darn tool!

Fear can make people do very stupid things.

I hope I don't end up in a work setting that actually screens and prohibits knives. That would make my blood boil.

When I attended orientation at Trinity Industries back in Feb. 05, they told us no knives longer that six inches, including the handle. When I got out on the floor, my leadman had a desk full of knives, none shorter than 8 inches. Guys out in the shop carrying big switchblades, etc.

And I worked in the Quality Assurance office, where there were two woman working. One a Secretary, the other a Welding Inspector. The Secretary told me not to sweat the knife policy, as everyone here carries them, including the Plant Manager.

I was out in a supply shed getting two boxes of copy paper. The lady who gave the orientation asks me to open a box for her. I whip out the mini Rukus and slash the bands all to hell and gone. She says, my that is quite a pig sticker! Never another word about it.

Which then begs the question: why even bring it up at the orientation?:jerkit:

To satisfy the lawyers. In case someone goes nuts, management can say, "we didn't know, we covered this in orientation!" That's what happens when you do the expedient thing instead of the right thing...

You have to build the office not work in it! No one would dare say anything about my knife.

I once had a knife confiscated over it being a 'weapon' and returned by the director with a stern warning not to bring it again and use the provided 'finger cutters' instead. I promptly put in for a transfer to another dept. (in the same building) but headed from corp. and never had any problems again, well atleast not while I worked there.

africcking AMEN!!!!!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: i do this with people when im in thier homes.

My new job prohibits weapons, not even a friggin multitool and get this...its a security job. It made me not want to take the job at first but a job is better than no job.

Not to say that I stick to these rules, gotta cut your lunch some how.

My response to those that freek about my knife is simple "how big is your kitchen knife?" usually shuts them up.

People at my previous job said the same thing about my endura 4 (coincidentally same knife). I told them it was a tool and that I always had a knife and multi-tool on me. I can't stand office environments, I can't wait to get an outdoors job where tools and gear are the norm :D

Employment=more knifes, thats no Fuzzy Math. Lose the pocket clip, shut the sheeple up, make money, buy new knifes and Fishing Poles.

Because they are wussies and need something to complain about. :D
Ignorant fools are those who make trouble for us knifeknuts!

There's a lot of things I can't do at the office that I can do at home and on the weekends. Sporting a big blade is just one of them, same as wearing jeans, and saying the F word as often as I please. So, I put a Delica or Mini-grip down in the pocket, and just be a little discreet about using it. It's really not that big a deal. I'm not at work to express my individuality, I'm there to do a job and make a living.
