Why do office people freak?

It's as useless as the UK knife law, you can go down to the hardware store and get an 18" piece of pipe, but a locking blade is outlawed.

One can buy what ever knives they want in the UK apart from balis and autos. They
can carry any knife they want with a reason and can carry <3" slip joints any time.
An 18" bit of pipe is going to be just as illegal as any "weapon" (if that's your intention).

Any hoo,

I carry a knife all the time at work in Taiwan and in the UK. I might be an odd boss but I
actually encourage my employees to carry a knife if they don't have a knife on them :p

So Haze.....can I work for you? Inquiring minds want to know :D

In the office I mostly carry a SAK and sometimes a traditional folder. There are a few other guys who carry a SAK daily. People fortunately don't look afraid when I pull out a SAK to use it as a tool, but they are often surprised, which in my opinion is weird. What is surprising about carrying a tool?

From what I've seen, this "knives are weapons" thing is mostly from those who grew up in the 80's on. Seems that the indoctrination these people recieved in school has effectively taken hold in their personna.

Thankfully some of us had parents who actually did their job and didn't depend on the school systems to think for us. I was born in '83 and am going through college now after taking some time off. I am amazed at how many fear knives for no reason...

They freak because most of them NEVER have been in the Military, or even out in the Country for that matter. They think the country is the park. Most people are raised by wimp parents, go to school with wimp Left Wing Teachers all the way through College. People today are a bunch of wimps for the most part who don't have a clue about anything except how to text and talk on the Cell phone and play office politics (Stab you buddies in the back to get promoted) and cheat on their spouses because they are bored. Most never had a real job that required real work. They drive like total idiots because they are in a hurry to get to work because they are running late. They left late because they were taking too much time trying to primp then are held up at the (Insert Coffee Place here) to get their morning coffee. Then they drive like a total maniac while texting or talking on the phone while drinking their coffee and eating their breakfast while putting on their makeup. By the time they get to work late they are all keyed up.

So after all of that seeing any knife would scare them since they are already worried and on edge about everything and parinoid anyway.

It was difficult to read but oh so true

Reading everybody's stories sure makes me happy that I am a forester and am expected to carry a knife (at least one), everyday, and even a small fixed blade doesn't get looked at weird.

Anyone who is afraid of a knife is afraid of life. The human race would be extinct if cave men did not have access to sharp pointy things.

...in D.C. and I left my knives at home. Instead I carry a screwdriver everywhere I go. No one is afraid of my Stanley screwdriver. Weird huh?

Sheeple people are one reason I am changing off tactical style blades (Kershaw's and such ) from EDC to more traditional slipjoints. Just to keep sheeple people not panicked.

As IT assistant nobody really question why I have leatherman since everyone has seen me working computer's data projektors, cables and such with it. But I still like to have something else with me to use as letter opener and box cutter... Something more classy...

I'll try medium stockman or peanut stle knives next week. SAK has worked nicely.

I wonder how much violent deaths and homicides have decreased in countries where knives are banned or compeared times when everyone had some sort of knife with them or hanged by the belt?

knif-o-fobia sucks. It makes me fully understand how NRA people feel... Prior knives I was one of the people against guns but after joining here I have changed my mind. Its not knives nor guns that kill people. Its people. Its cliché but its truth.

Even if there would be no blades and and guns, people would still kill people. If not else they will bash heads in with rocks or use sticks, piepes or steel chains to do that...

Problem is not people with knives or guns. Problem is that generations who came after us have been twisted more or less due society which makes both parents work or single caretaker families. Kids in such terms are grown playing violent games like Grand Theft Auto and such and then people wonder how young people can be so violent and twisted.

Week ago in midday a gang of three 16 year old guys attack 12 year old girl in school yard. They pushed her against wall and beat her for no reason. When she fell one of these "heroes" started to kick her. And this all happened at noon in school yard. And it happened here middle of nowhere. as I heard last time nobody wasn't arrested as no identification could have been made. For crying out loud. There's 5500 people living in central area and someone from school knows who did it since this happened in local community collge yard.

Problem is not the knives and guns but people handeling them. We really need to toughen how we grow our children. Free growth and such hippy policies have brought horrible situation where young people feel bad, negleted and have no clear picture of right and wrong. instead treating this problem with kids an young people which would cost billions but would cure problem governments pass idiotic legistlations that will not do anythign for the problem but are idiotic considering like knives.

But its still cheaper to pass law than start thinking what the heck is wrong in society and start improving where problem is. Its cheaper to pass banning law and whipe problems under the rug... Until next school assault...

Good stuff

That pretty much summarizes everything. If world would be sensible, rational or just sane, that text would change things.. but it won't.

It's not a coincidence that the intellects do the school assaults, but nobody seems to want to think why is it so.

If you can legally carry your "weapon" concealed, I'd say go that route. Either in the pocket without the clip showing or inside the waistband. You can try to explain to people that it's a tool (my mind is the weapon, ha!) all you want, and you'll reach some of them, but it sounds like it'll be an uphill battle.

I live in Alaska. Knives? Nobody cares. Everyone has a gun.

They tried that here.

I pointed out the scissors on/in just about everyone's desk, paper cutter blades on each copy station, knives in the kitchen area etc and asked the HR weenies to explain to me how they consider a sub 2" slipjoint a weapon when more suitable items were strewn all over the company. They had no answer.

For once the pin-heads admitted they were off base. Never heard another word from them again.

Exactly.

It all starts in the home, most parents today don't have a clue what parenting means. So they let the Extreme Left Wing Liberals brainwash their kids into the Radical Socialist mindset we have today. :jerkit:

They really need to cleanup the school systems and get rid of all those Liberals that are brainwashing our kids. ;)

They need to get back to the basics of LEARNING the 3 R's and forget all of that pansy BS they are filling our kids minds with.

Cleaning up the Media would also go along way to helping too since they are Wild Eyed Liberals too... Except for Fox News.

You were lucky as that almost never happens.....

Them admitting they were wrong that is...... :jerkit:

Here in the Netherlands there are very high restrictions on carrying guns, so almost no one carries a gun. But, recently the police of Amsterdam reported that there are shooting incidents quite often in their city and this is probably not very different in other big cities. I think it's quite simple. Criminals who want to carry and use a gun or want to use knives as weapons don't mind the laws. So gun and knife laws primarily hit normal people, maybe they make it criminals a bit harder, but they certainly don't stop them. A lot of politicians, both on the left wing (socialists) and right wing (liberals), have the illusion that if you ban "everything", the world will become safe.
