Why do people like the CS Spartan?

It seems odd to me that so many people on this forum would actually like or even own this knife. So many other designs are mocked, yet this one never really see's much criticism from what I can tell. I'm not starting this thread to hate on the knife, just trying to understand why this particular knife escapes criticism given for other "mall ninja/fantasy" style blades.

I admit, it does have quite a gaudy design, but the two points of it that i personally like is that in gives you a near enclosed guard, so there is no risk of your hand sliding down the blade, as well, I endevour to start my own collection of folders, and it is a beast in its own right. It did take a while however to get over the initial bias of the appearance. Also, i am quit a fan of kopis/ khuk style blades.

It's a big, inexpensive, tough as nails knife, with a khukri shaped blade. There are not alot of knives that compete with the same specs. Personally, I like the Rajah 2 better.

1. Superb Tri-ad lock
2. Andrew Demko design
3. Reasonable price
4. Handle shape makes for very positive grip.
5. Some folks just like big knives (and CS loves to make big ones)

Not quite my cup of tea. I almost bought one when it first came out but didn't and still haven't. Just so many choices that seem more interesting and/or practical to me.

I just don't see how something like this would actually fit in a pocket. It looks like it'd be the most uncomfortable thing carry in pocket. Would've made more sense for them to make this blade a fixed blade IMO.

Have you ever held or used a Cold Steel a with the TriAd lock? It is as close to a fixed blade as you can get in a folder. There really is not a tougher lock out there that I am aware of. Go to a local knife store that has this thing and check it out if you haven't already.

I like the blade but not the grip. Don't think I'd ever get used to it.

I love the cold steel triad locking knives. I have owned both ak47s, both lawmns, both style recons, the large holdout nd now the spartan. For a long time the look of the spartan kept me from buying it, but finally i did pick one up. Ive carried everyday since. I carry it front pocket along with my giant cell phone in jeans with no problems.
I like the way the knife waves open, i like the way the stoopid looking handle feels and i like how inexpensive the knife is. I also appreciate how easy aus8 is to sharpen and how tough it is. I have owned lots of big knives from other companies and i dont think ill let this one go.

Maybe because it doesn't have any similar knives in the same price range? Most of CS's other products are going head to head against similar, better made products with better steel.

I really think that "better" is a matter of personal opinion. Aus8 is perfeft for my needs since it dosent chip as easily as steels such as s30v or 154cm. Ymmv of course
