Why do people like the CS Spartan?

For Sparta, baby. For Sparta.

No, really. On a more serious note, I think it's the fact that how inexpensive it is. Not to mention, I own a couple Cold Steel knives and they are rock solid. If I'm not mistaken, the triad lock on the Spartan is rated up to several hundred pounds and that's plenty reason there for the price. I always thought about buying one, but they're pretty huge and I just wasn't looking for a big folder at the time.

I like the blade but not the grip. Don't think I'd ever get used to it.

If you don't like it, mod it!

Why do people like the CS Spartan?

Because of its badassedness!

Seriously.. triad lock, 4 1/2" blade, incredibly secure handle- all for under $60. That ain't too shabby.

i think its cause people are over compensating for something.

For me Dork ops are the soo goofy theyre kewl knives, i actually like interceptor its just so..... so i dunno rediculous and paired with their anti-pc ad campaign it just kinda puts a smile on my face :)

I tend to think some people just have the desire for a large folder, even if they don't really need it for anything practical. The Spartan offers this at a pretty low price. It's large, strong, well made, and cheap. It allows people to indulge in having that big knife without spending a crazy amount.
There's also the pure weapon aspect of it that some may also want to satisfy without spending a ton. Here the Spartan offers a secure lock, secure grip, wave, and decent blade length.
The Spartan also offer a chance to try a waved knife without shelling out $150 for an Emerson.
Lastly, some want a overbuilt, end of the world folding knife, and the Spartan satisfies that role too, again, without costing a lot.
Personally, I think the Rajah-2 is a better choice from a usability/utility stand point, but it does have increased size and cost.

It's a big, inexpensive, tough as nails knife, with a khukri shaped blade. There are not alot of knives that compete with the same specs. Personally, I like the Rajah 2 better.

1. Superb Tri-ad lock
2. Andrew Demko design
3. Reasonable price
4. Handle shape makes for very positive grip.
5. Some folks just like big knives (and CS loves to make big ones)

It also cuts really well. So really, the question should be, why doesn't everyone own this knife? Size should be the only rational factor against buying one. The only brand in the world that makes even bigger folders is... you guessed it, Cold Steel! :D

Eventually (Demko and I wear talking about this) I'll send it in to have a full Ti spacer and a Demko custom blade of some exotic super steel done up for it in a similar tanto style. Along with the new spacer, he'd bore out the 2-56 screw holes and replace them with 4-40 screws.

I admit to liking the Spartan. It's been on and off my "Possible Future Knives" list many times. But then I wonder when I'm ever going to carry a knife that big (which makes me replace it on the list with the Rajah 3) and whether I want the bother of sharpening a recurve like that (which then knocks both the Spartan and the Rajah 3 off the list).

But now you have me thinking about the Spartan again, so where's that list.......?

I can do your Spartan the same... send me a PM.

I've heard on BFC that the spartan is an excellent knife, and it sparked my interest to hold one. I got the chance to handle one and It looks a lot different in your hand than it does on the internet. It is thinner than I thought, and I will get one when I am able.
