i think its stupid that a person can like only one knife maker because there are many thing that others can offer that you favorite many not so i want to know why people think that one maker is better than the other(im talking about the big makers like SOG, KABAR, Cold steel, etc) i mean when it comes down to it we all like knives so what im trying to say look at knives outside of you favorites some of many favorite knive are from a maker that isnt my favorite maker

The only people I don't like are those who appear to have something against the English language.

fuck you i dont care about how i typed because im just trying to ask a question so if you dont have an somthing to say about the topic then just dont

agree i do some of many knive favorite of mine from a maker that not my favorite

meh. There are so many quality knife makers out there, it's much easier to settle on one or two :P

There are a ton of designs I like from companies like Benchmade, Kershaw, Buck, etc... But my first real quality knife was a Spyderco, which prompted several more Spyderco purchases. Every time I see an example I'm tempted to buy, I remember something similar Spyderco might have, or even if it's completely different yet could fill the same role...

If I had bought a BM as my first, I'm sure I'd have a nice assortment of those in my drawer right now. Sorta luck of the draw, for me.

Though I do have several other brands of knives, my go to EDC knives are Spydercos. Everything else is a fixed blade, or backup, or traditional, etc... The spydies get worked.

Some people settle on a specific maker because they found what they wanted in a knife and the person/company that makes it.

For folders I'll buy anything that is made well from about any maker. For fixed I found busse, nuff said.

If ya put a gun to my head and demanded that I choose a favorite brand, it would be Emerson by a nose. In reality however, I have knives from most of the big names and they are all great. See the sig.

i think its stupid ....

I do think it's stupid for someone to make a statement like that just because he does not understand why.

If I had enough money I'd have knives from a lot of makers. However, since I'm trying to make my money count, I have knives from a manufacturer whose knives give me what I look for.

Oh I prefer knives from makers(production or custom) that have been tried and true. I mostly choose knives based on steel, but I also try to see if that steel has good heat treatment.

Next is based on intended use, and nothing says "Personal Defense Tool" like an Emerson waved knife. Though I'll be looking forward to the day that patent expires and other makers can make a wave opening knife with a more exotic steel with better heat treatment.

Its like anything else, we all don't see things the same way.

I think having $20,000 collection of busse knifes your never going to use is dumb, some people might think that trying out multiple manufactures is dumb, (hey if its not broken don't fix it.) clearly you think that sticking to one manufacture is dumb so were all different in how we see things.

To date I have a knive from Spyderco, Fallkniven, ESEE, SOG, Buck, and CRKT. I do like certain company's more then others but I will encourage people to try at least a few out.

It's not so much being maker loyal as being design loyal. For example, Spyderco just happens to have fit all my requirements thus far. (non-metallic handle, no recurve blade, thin, good steel, 4 way clip and feels good), but if I were to get a fixed blade, I'd look elsewhere.

Questions end in question marks (?). I saw none. In fact that was hardly even a coherent thought.

In response to what I think you were trying to ask, Different makers do things differently. Most of my knives are Spydercos. I like the round hole, they use premium steel and are relatively affordable. I also have a few Benchmade and Cold Steel products too, but overall, Spyderco has what I want most of the time.

I like a lot of knife makers. I like Spyderco, Kershaw, Fallkniven, Mora of Sweden, Buck, Chris Reeve, Case and Spyderco :D

Now that's just out of ones I've tried. I just tend to gravitate towards Spyderco because they've really nailed "it". Spyderhole for fast opening, awesome ergonomics, innovative and reliable locks, high performance steels and excellent blade geometry.

In my particular case.... Benchmade has the axis lock, ambidextrous is great for us lefties.

Although not eloquently conveyed, I kinda get what you are saying... I think.

I like many knife manufacturers but have 1 or 3 favorites. My favorite is Kershaw/ZT since their designs, quality, feature-set and pricing appeal to me. But yeah, there are many designs from many makers that get my attention. I like Spydercos overall design philosophy. Most of their knives follow this and I think they stand out because of it. Benchmade tries to instill an image of "premium" and their pricing follows suit also ;) . Buck has always seemed like they were geared for hunters and outdoorsman well, probably because they do.

But I can see why one person would stick solely to a particular brand. Perhaps he is and avid hunter and has always used Bucks since his Dad or Grandpa got him his first one. Perhaps they have never let him down and he is the "if it ain't broke" type of person. Maybe he is a collector and concentrates only on Bucks. It is not ours to say what knife maker another person should like or if they should like many or all makers. Is is a very personal decision to like only one and certainly one's prerogative to do so. So don't push your opinions on others, please.

- who says you're not allowed to like many makers? (it seems to me like you're saying that someone's saying that - did I get that right? My english is not THAT good...)
- i guess the precision of Sebenzas is just greater than the precision of most other production knives... In Addition to that its probably one of the most proven and tested modern folding knife (it has been around for 25-30 yrs?) - so it could suggests itself that this knife MAY be superior to most other folding knives from these points of view. [FYI: i dont own a CRK (yet?)]

And most important: what if you just like specific designs or the look of a few knives?

Here's an example:
From the point i saw pictures of the BM707 and BM710 i REALLY liked these 2 knives... Now i have 2 of each model and a bunch of other knives, but i still prefer these 2 models for EDC. I just dont like the usual kershaw, emerson, ... look and really like the look of most of McHenry&Williams' knives.
[spydercos are growing on me, but.. their just nice... they couldn't stand up to my 707 :p]

So if these looks are just superior to me if i compare it to other production knives - why should I buy other brands?
Yes, i still buy more knives and yes, most of the folders are BMs, but if i'd buy a liner lock it would be another reason to leave it at home (at least to me).
[ok, the sebenza is still teasing, but it has to wait until i have more money to spend on knives...]

Summary: I dont like the looks of most knives of other knife companies. And i'm REALLY happy that i dig the 707 & 710 that much :D
