There may be a major problem with getting this one made. Sal said over on the factory forum that the classsic Police Model may be facing a major change for the first time in 37 years, and they may not get enough of them from the maker to fill the back orders.

Hi Jack,

I'm still planning it, but there will be some changes. We're waiting for sample decisions on construction.

Good to know, sir. I've been carrying a serrated first generation Police for a while now. Generally I prefer full flat grinds, but the flat saber grind really suits that knife. I'm interested to see what changes come out of this.

Hi Loon, it's still moving forward, but it seems most projects these days are moving slower than planned.

I just found this thread from the other forum- I have been out of the knife world for so long that i did not even know the original stainless Police was still in production.
The Police was one of my first Spyderco knives, bought around 1995 in a knife store in the Burlington Mall. It was fully serrated. At some point i picked up a rare (at that time) plain edge police. Somewhere along the line i acquired a few more, including an ATS-55 G-10 SE Police with the engraving ground off. The one I carried most was the CE VG-10 model which i added grooves to the grip with a file to make it easier to hold.
The Police was not suited to my line of work at the time, which was commercial fishing and I gravitated towards serrated inexpensive sheepsfoot knives like the Atlantic Salt and Byrd Rescue.
Since 2013 I worked part time for our local harbor patrol as well as commercial fished. In 2018 I got a full time job in marine law enforcement. I was getting out from under a failed commercial fishing business and stopped buying knives for a long time. I was given a small Buck pocket knife for Christmas one year by my girlfriend’s parents and it has met all of my cutting needs and it is a pleasure for me to carry and use a knife someone gave to me as a gift. So I have carried that little Buck for 3 years, it did everything and its only flaw was that the handle is small.
Fast forward to this week- i like to have a knife as a weapon. A fixed blade is often not convenient and therefore is left home. I was in search of a knife to carry on my off hand side that was comfortable, easy to access and fast to open. Then I remembered that modified CE Police. I tried every which way to make it work on my left side but the clip was not reversible. I posted on the other Spyderco forum and got some great feedback. Ultimately I have figured out how to make my Police work however that thread led me here and to this long winded reply.
While I would not be able to afford a high end sprint run Police I want to say that I am glad to see this knife still in Spyderco’s lineup in all of its incarnations. I have a history with the Police, I come from a law enforcement family and I am happy that the knife continues to be produced in its mostly original configuration. Thanks Sal.
