Why do you buy knifes ?

If there is one thing in this forum that we all can agree to, I would guess that to be that we all love knifes. All kinds of knifes. Traditional fixed blades and folders, to neck knifes and so on....

From there though, the argument and debates abound. From a manufacturer, to style, to usage. Even the color of a particular knife is open for debate. Most of the debate is all in good fun, but there are times when it isn't, and that's to bad.

I would dare say that many of us, excited about our new purchase, have showed up at BladeForums. We then went on to rave about our new blade, and maybe even post pictures. Remerber ? The reasons why we buy a knife, are you're own.

I think the first folding knife I bought was the SOG TF-11 Trident, and my first fixed blade was my Glock model 81. As a sidenote, my Glock 81 has been with me since 1983.
That being said, I now have a fairly sizeable knife collection, isn't that the whole point ? I think so.

I therefor would like to purpose that instead of criticizing someone about their purchase, congratulate them for buying a knife, and making BladeForums possible.

In closing...collect on my friends !

Simple I use knives on a daily basis. I am still searching for that "Perfect" EDC and light/heavy duty work knife.

Different handle/blade styles do different things, one type of handle style may hurt my hand while using it for long periods of time where as another could still be comfortable. As for blades, different blade styles, materials, etc give you different characteristics while cutting so I want to find the "best" one for me.

I have a need to collect things and these are among the most useful things that I could buy right now.

I buy knives because I need them, use them, enjoy them, appreciate them in general, and no one gives them away for the most part.

some to use
some because they,re Beautiful
some just because I had the extra cash and thought if not this then I,d probably waste it on something Crazy like food or gas.

Because I love them, I enjoy them, I use them, there's so much to learn and try out, and overall it's just a great hobby and I'm glad that it's my hobby.

I just like knives and think they are fun to fondle. I also use knives on a daily bases for basic uses of cutting open packages and tasks like that. I like sharp things and dangerous things can be good if you are safe with them. I think it is just a guy thing as well, plus I like high quality items and that is why I like expensive knives. There is also something neat about custom knives knowing it was handmade and that your money is going to that person alone.

I always had a love of knives as far back as I can remember,
it was hard to explain until I found you fine gentlemen.

Because stamps, coins, and model railroads don't interest me and guns and cars are too expensive.

I believe Blaise Pascal said something like that. ;).

And this too...
"Wager, then, without hesitation that He is. (...) There is here an infinity of an infinitely happy life to gain, a chance of gain against a finite number of chances of loss, and what you stake is finite. And so our proposition is of infinite force, when there is the finite to stake in a game where there are equal risks of gain and of loss, and the infinite to gain."
