Why do you EDC?

I could probably pass the average day without using my pocket knife/s.

I have my scissors/teeth/keys for cutting string, opening boxes/mail, etc. But my knife is always on me and it makes all those things much easier/faster.

I don't need a multitool on me either. I have access to all the tools I need throughout the day...but having a multitool makes it easier/faster.

Because I'd feel like an idiot telling people that I worked in my shop last night making knives and then not having one in my pocket to show them.

That's what we think... they think serial killer :D:D

If your used to have a knife handy all the time, you just can't go without one ;)

This^. I'm tired of someone needing a knife and myself having one then looked at like I'm a hooligan and up to no good lol

I earned my first pocket knife when I was 5 helping dad build a bamboo fence I think it was a linemen knife from the px. I am 55 now I would be lost without one.

For me, also knives are something I enjoy using.
I have more folders than fixed.
Every day I have a new folder in my pocket.
Each differs in size, profile blades.
After about having fun. And I have it :)

I think that every well-dressed European should carry a gentleman's pocket-knife.
You guys have some very nice Klotzli or Boker models that would be "presentable" anywhere.
I carry because, although very casual carry, I still use it every day.
:)

I am loving this thread! Great topic OP!

I think I can relate to a lot of these answers. I've been into knives for years, but for a long time it was only medium - large fixed blades that I would occasionally take on a hike or camping, but I never really edc'd anything.

I work as a counselor in a high school during the school year, and during the summer I work at a farm bartending weddings and running the front gate. So at school I definitely don't need a knife (as I'm non technically allowed to have one) and during the summer I have slightly more occasions to use one.

So my job and lifestyle don't really require that I have a knife. That being said, I've been immensely enjoying this edc thing lately. I just appreciate and admire good design and craftsmanship. While I might not use my knife every day, I can guarantee that I'll pull it out every day even if it's just to open, close and admire.

I started collecting knives when I was probably 10 or so just because I thought they were cool. Didn't really need a knife at that point.

Once I started working in food service I found myself needing a knife constantly to open or breakdown boxes, etc. I used it every day.

Now I work in an office and don't need it as much. But doing IT work I still open my fair share of boxes containing computers, keyboards, printers, etc. I probably don't use my knif everyday anymore, but I carry it out of habit and for convenience when I do need to cut something.

I carry because I can, and because it's the way I was raised. A man is supposed to have a knife in his pocket. I know many don't, but that's just my personal philosophy. If you ask me if I have a knife, my answer is going to be "Sure do, what are you carrying right now?".

I like your thinking, the conversation starts from there and maybe someone can realize that a carry knife is almost indispensible.

It's good to remind someone of the old ways! I'm going to try that next time..

- I don't see myself going into a knives fight. Although I admit I feel safer with a "tool" in my pocket.
+1

IMO - you can carry knife every day without using it, once you don't have knife in pocket and you gonna need it in that day as a tool. Like with umbrella - needed when you don't bring it with you.

Also knives are like expensive watches - male jewelry.

The combination of old eyes and stiff hands makes it darn near impossible to open beef jerky packages without a knife.

Yes to this. Also, please understand that I do so in a respectful way. I know there are some folks here who love to get on a "sheeple" rant, but the fact is, most folks have SOMEthing to bring to the table, and maybe they were brought up by those who weren't taught themselves. It happens. A little respect goes a long way, and when you meet a coworker who doesn't have a knife of their own, and you show them how having even a small Swiss Army Knife could really save the day, suddenly the light tends to come on.

As an anecdotal story, I think I've been responsible for the sale of like, six different SAKs and other multitools in my office. I work with a bunch of engineers, and you only tend to have to show them something once. LOL We had an office luncheon, and someone brought some bottles of some root-beer that for some ungodly reason didn't have twist off caps. No one could locate a bottle-opener in the breakroom, so my Alox Cadet came out and I opened 36 bottles of friggin' soda. Criminy.

Next day, two of the guys came to show me their new Cadets, I still smile when I think of how proud they were.

Because I like to, and occasionally need to use it.

I see you're in Poland (if your "Location" is anything to go by.) Both times I stayed in Krakow for extended periods, I brought at least 5 of my favorites. Didn't use em much, but it was nice to have a piece of home with me, out and about on those wonderful streets.

I used to work in a farm. A knife is an indispensable tool. Got used to carrying there. Now that I have a small bed space business, maintenance of the building will often require a knife. Plus, I'm an unashamed mall ninja. I carry a rajah 2 during my evening walks ever since the government made it illegal for me to carry a pistol.
