Why do you like Spyderco's?

I bought a Police model when I was 18, in a fit of young stupidity I destroyed it stabbing it into a block of frozen hamburger. A while back I was looking for a new knife and came across the Lava, all stainless steel, and small. I bought it and carry it almost every day, it is like a mini Talon in your pocket. Since then I've bought a Saver Salt and a Rescue JR. I love the FRN, I thought I would hate FRN and the spydie edge, but Spyderco made me a believer. I love then when I buy them you could shave your face with them, that tells me someone cares enough to take the time and make sure the knife is that sharp. They just plain work, you can't argue that, and that is what makes them so appealing.

I like FRN-handled versions best -- they're lighter-weight, blades are made of good steel, and textured FRN provides a good grip and is amazingly rugged. Spyderco makes reasonably priced, good value, reliable working knives.

"All of the Above"

and...

Spyderco hasn't broken my heart by discontinuing their 'bread and butter' knives like the Endura, Delica, Police, Native, etc. In fact, they keep on improving them! We should be thankful that we can go out tomorrow and replace our beloved Delica with the SAME model (with improved features to boot). That's a VERY good thing in my opinion.

(can you say AFCK?...)

That's a good point!

Because my wife doesn't let me buy crappy knives.

You can also add great ergonomics, value, materials, and a great reputation for customer service.

Am sixty two years old, have been carrying a pocket knife for well over fifty years, and a locking folder for close to forty. Arthritis and some nerve damage made opening a nail nick style folder painful. Thumb bobs are a bit easier, but not much. So, by itself, the Spyderhole opener would be reason enough for me to carry a Spyderco. But when combined with excellent designs, high quality, and admirable ethics, it's a lock. :D

I like Spyderco for a few reasons. First, they are a Colorado company. Being a very proud Coloradoan, I like that. I would still support the company if they moved, but I have to admit that I would like them a touch less!

Second, their products have an excellent quality/value ratio, meaning you get what you pay for, if not a little extra. In some cases, much more than a little extra a'la the Native.

Third, this forum illustrates the connection that Spyderco has with their customers. How many companies can you name where the average dude off the street can ask a question to a relatively large company and have a better than average chance that the head cheese himself will answer you?

Fourth, they are always playing with designs, introducing new things and improving on older ones. I appreciate them not resting on their laurels.

Fifth is just pride of ownership. I am proud to carry a Spyderco product, and I know other people are too.

Sixth, I like the thumb hole. I didn't think the difference between a stud and a hole would be that much, but I am finding more and more that the thumb hole is the superior method for one hand operation, at least for me.

Finally, personal experience. After going through a bunch of craptastic knives in the USMC, my pink Delica (or Endura, I forget) managed to take all the abuse I threw at it (and I managed to take all the abuse hurled at me for carrying it, lol) and come back for more.

So, I like Spyderco and will stick with them. I own a Benchmade and I own a Fox, both of which I am very, very happy with, and I own a few other knives that I like, but don't love. I feel like I have the best that those two companies offer, but that I have barely scratched the surface of what this company has to offer.

Their people, their people, their people, their people...oh, yeah and the knives are great too!

Round hole totally sold me. Plus the amazing tech support, wonderful lineup of knives, exceptional steel, feels great in the hand, I could go on but I'm tired. :)

I like Spyderco because...

... they make the Military.

(just sold most of my other folders to make money for more Millies: now have a G10/S30V, a CF/S90V and a CF/BG42 is incoming, all satin PE)

Thanks everyone for all the kind words. We enjoy what we do, we really enjoy being able to interact with all of you.

You may not be aware, but we're actually a relatively small company. There are just 42 people that work at Spyderco (that includes Sal and Gail), so we're just 42 really busy people. :D It's easy though to work hard when you're passionate about what you do.
