Why do you live there?

Here's why I don't mind living in the Hudson Valley area too much:

And here's why I can't wait to move back to California by the Sutter Buttes again...

About 10 years ago the Boeing 747 I was in crashed into the Pacific ocean, luckily not too far off the New Zealand coast.

I survived and managed to swim to shore. Spent a few days recovering I realized it's not a bad place to live on this little polynesian island. It's got scenery to die for, and yet most of it is mild both in winter and summer.

My parents followed me not long after I decided to stay.

Now I've got a small ranch which I will be building a house on this year if all goes well.
Here's some of my place:

And I've got some friendly neighbours too.:)

Um, being a kid I live where my parents live. :D

But, I like Wisconsin. Nice summers, but we get real winter weather too, which I also enjoy.

I live in NJ because if I leave "the family" will hunt me down. ;)

Remember, it's a dirty myth that it rains a lot in Portland, Oregon. The fact is that we only have one rain storm per year!.... of course it starts in September and doesn't end until May... but it's only one storm per year!

I'm currently in North Kackalacky (no locals call it thus).

Made a mistake. Plenty of good jobs, if you're not from here and they want you. But, ya better not get layed off, cause no one else will be interested in you. Under-employment abounds.

But, hey, I suppose the tradition of "why do in an hour what you can take a day for" has its advantages.

So, tell me Emanuel, is how is the job market in New Zealand?

Sounds like a potentially fulfilling life down there.

I live here because of my work building really big information systems for the federal government. I spent decades living out of suitcases chasing the work all over the country and eventually I ended up "inside the Beltway".

I live here because nobody remembers the last time it snowed, and I like the beautiful 130mph breezes we get during hurricane season.

Firstly, it's where I'm from and was lucky enough to land a good STABLE job with no real chance of job loss(except for maybe going all- volunteer). I have lived within a couple of kilometres of the ocean all my life and couldn't imagine not seeing it every day. I'm big into kayaking and we have some of the best paddling anywhere. We don't get major extremes in weather, so I'm not dealing with heat waves, hurricanes, major cold-snaps, etc...I can hold the door for someone and not freak them out and can say hello to people I don't know when we make eye contact without getting maced or worse. The last murder took place hmm...ahhh...sometime. The cost of living is such that I can live comfortably without having to take out a mortgage my kids will have to inherit to pay off. It's just an easy going pace of life. It's just about right. Not perfect, but close.

I LOVE living in North Florida. While we do get hurricane scares, we don't get hit nearly as much as they do in South Florida. The cost of living is very reasonable. I live in a small town on the outskirts of Jacksonville. The people here are wonderful. They're all very friendly and warm hearted. There is a lot of opportunity here for people who have direction and ambition. It would be a great place to raise a family. The only complaint that I have is that it's way too cold right now. :( I miss the climate in South Florida where sweaters were worn purely for fashion's sake.

My job and my wifes keep us in S. Fla. That's it. We can count on being ground zero for at least a couple of hurricanes every year for at least the next decade. The traffic is terrible, and it has turned into a concrete jungle everwhere. My P.D. can't recruit anyone to work for us because no one can afford the price of housing anymore. 4 1/2 more years and we are off to TN. if mother nature does not take us out first.
The only thing I am going to miss is the Cuban food.

I don't know where you are in South Florida. I grew up in W.P.B., Florida. I know that the price of real estate there is ludicrous. My brother was about to move up here when his boss gave him a wonderful promotion. The problem is that the cost of living is still too high for a typical family to live respectably. I still love going down to visit. I'm always amazed by all of the changes down there. I'll always love South Florida. Especially the CUBAN FOOD. :D

Western WA is a beautiful place; I actually like gray drizzly weather, rain, wind, cold, and not seeing the sun for months on end. Seriously.

I moved here from Hawaii because I was really, really sick of non-stop sunshine. I guess I may go back if I ever get tired of having actual seasons. ;)

Ren, I'm sorry that in this day and age, people look down on your family and your son and can't accept him or your family.

I'm a born and raised MD boy. My parents grew up in Baltimore, moved out to the counties gradually, and ended up in what has now become a thriving town outside of Baltimore. My father almost took a job in Alaska on the pipeline when I was a baby. When I was about 4, they moved to where I live now. My parents had planned on just buying property and selling it and moving on to new greener pastures. What kept them where they are now is that my baby sister died of SIDS when I was 9, and they've just stayed in the area.

I had the opportunity of buying an apartment in Ocean Sh***y MD, and was offered several management jobs on the spot at a job fair down there, but stupidly did not accept (the down payment I had was spent on dumb crap, it would have been a life experience, and a fun one at that). I have some CC debt that I am clearing down, because of the debt, my credit is not what I want it to be, but I can still get an apartment. I guess the reason why I am still feeding off my parents (I do pay rent though), is because I am just a lazy bastid. Even though my house is pretty hectic, I still love my family, and it's nice to come home and get a good meal and a hug.

I love to travel, and have visited most of MD, DE, WV, VA, PA and NJ. I am blessed to be working for Uncle Sam, in a job where I can be transferred or promoted (as long as I stay off BF ;))anywhere in the world. I've been looking at North Carolina, the midwest, Maine. MD is just too goofy. Right now I'm just looking for cheap living costs, and beautiful vistas, mainly good fishing and hiking etc.

In the near future, after I get my debt cleared down, I am probably going to see if I can get a townhouse in Baltimore close to work. I had planned on either moving to Delaware, or Hanover PA, but with the option of working anywhere in America, I can just open an atlas and point...

I to seriously LOVE that kind of weather!! I get depressed with too much sun!! I LOVE dark, cloudy, stormy days!! they ENERGIZE me!!

Why do I live here? Well, 3 reasons spring to mind:

1. Wife's job (which gives us a place to live and the ability to stay at home with my young child).

2. An ever-present fear of once again living in the midwest (especially Michigan). I grew up there, and most of my family are there, but God help me I never want to go back. Probably the only thing worse than living in Michigan again would be living in Blacksburg, VA again. Just thinking about either place is enough to give me hives.

3. (Forgot to put the 3rd!) BoSox.
