Why do you live there?

A wise man once told me that there are 3 things that make people happy with their life. If you have 2 out of the 3 you are doing pretty good. They are good family, good friends, and a good job. That's why people stay where they are at.

I live here because nobody remembers the last time it snowed, and I like the beautiful 130mph breezes we get during hurricane season.

The most widespread snowfall in Florida history happened in February 1978 with snow falling over much of the state in different times of the month, extending as far south as Homestead. Snow flurries fell on Miami Beach for the only time in recorded history.

Well one out of two ain't bad. :D

Hey, I remember that! I was there with my wife visiting friends when it happened.

NO VA because I'm not smart enought to leave. And all my family are here and the girls are easy.

A promotion and a bit of luck brought me here.

I originally expected to end up in Los Angeles, where my commute would have been worse than the one that was already killing me in the SF Bay Area. But I happened to be in Washington DC while I was waiting on official word about the LA job and had the opportunity to speak with someone much higher up the food chain. He asked if I'd ever heard of Roanoke, VA and suggested I give the matter some consideration. Long story short, I turned down LA, stressed out completely for about 6 weeks waiting to hear if I was going to get the position in Roanoke (I had no promises) and here I am, 5 years later.

Of course, being a dumb a$$, I've been trying to get myself promoted out of here -- my boss isn't going anywhere and I'd like to try being 1st banana instead of 2nd banana (I'd also like to maximize my pension, so I can retire as early as possible). Ironically, if I'd gone to LA, I'd probably have been promoted 2 years ago.

Heh - since this has partly turned into a 'post a photo of where you live competition', I thought I'd weigh in.

As beautifull as my little seaside town is, it's still a compromise. It still pays fr me to be within a couple hours drive of a major airport. Next year I reckon I'll really go bush.

I came here with my parents when my dad got a new job at the U of A doing optics. I love Arizona. I lived in IL (near Chicago) for 12 years, Kansas for nearly a year (most boring state in the country), and Colorado for 6, and I've had enough of the cold. It gets hot here of course, but I actually like the heat. People think I'm nuts riding my bike aorund town when it's 110 out, but I love it. I miss the snow though. My dad loves it because of the dark skies (he's an astro-nut). Plus we get lots of baseball spring training here (and in Phoenix).

The other reason I love AZ is that it's about the most free state in the country. Shall-issue CCW, open carry, Class III, and you can buy autos and balisongs at the mall.

My family lives here, and this state is less polluted than many others. Higher taxes, more competitive job market, and much colder as well.

My wife and I built our house on the lake property that I grew up on.
The sun sets across the lake every day.
I've got a pistol range off my back porch.
The neighbors and I have been here nearly 50 years.
No one can build around us to within at leas 1/2 mile.
My sister's grave is between my house and the house we grew up in.

I choose to live here in the Portland, Oregon area as a self-sacrificing act of charity. By living in this horrible place, I volunteer to free up a spot in some more desirable place for someone more deserving than me.

Chuck you have got to be F%@&!ING kidding me...I look around at the desolate wasteland of West Texas and OFTEN think of moving out your direction. Oregon is beautiful country, it rains there, it's about the last weapon friendly state in the union...and my mom lives in Everette so I wouldn't be ENTIRELY removed from my family. I hate it here personally...I'm just sticking it out because in the long run it is helping myself and my wife get our careers where we want to be. Hopefully I'll be back in the DFW area in a couple more years and can settle down for a change. Dear Santa...I'm being a very good boy this year and more than anything else I would like the means to get back to the big city where I feel at home instead of this back woods hole in the ground...

...oh yeah...and a Darrel Ralph Venturi and a Pabu with Devon Thomas Mokume-Gane inlays :D
Hey it could happen :p
