"Why do you need....?"

My answer is always the same when dealing with people like this... I don't NEED to explain anything to them.

Ask them why they eat meat, since they don't need to, and their meat consumption has killed a lot more people than your knife or gun (causes inflated food prices world wide and also the leading contributor to climate change). If you don't have a vegetarian/vegan on your hands (the vegetarian you can still scold because of cows methane gas release) you can then start comparing them to the greatest mass murderers in the world. You can then start blaming them for hurricanes and tornadoes as well, just like far-leftists like to do.

Or ask them why they need a dog/cat. That thing is consuming resources that could feed a starving child. If they have a cat they are contributing to the destructing of the America's ecosystem and if a dog ask them why they need anything other than a toy breed, considering any dog larger than a toy can be very dangerous. Much more so than your knife actually, the dog has a mind of its own, your knife doesn't.

If they are married with a diamond ring, you can give them a lecture on conflict diamonds. Whether the actual diamond is a conflict diamond is mute, their demand and willingness to pay the high price for it has caused much suffering.

I could probably go on with a bunch of Western habits that aren't looked down upon with derision by those who consider themselves more culturally evolved, but my examples should suffice.

To cut things was my response the one time someone asked me that, and the only reason I bothered answering nicely, is because they seemed to be asking an honest question.

also the leading contributor to climate change).

that isn't remotely true.

It absolutely is. Really, because of three things: meat production is very energy intensive, the methane release from our live stock, and the nitrous oxide from our soil cultivation. But deforestation also plays a part in order to create arable land.

The only way you could even attempt to tell me what I said is not true, is if you simply don't believe in anthropomorphic climate change. And if you don't, just have a good day, I have no desire to try and argue facts with someone who doesn't believe in them.

But eat meat, I don't care. It was just a way to knit-pick with someone who feels the need to regulate your life.

Either way, even if you don't believe in climate change, you will have a lot easier time feeding the world if grain was directly going to people instead of animals first. The cost of food would go down and there wouldn't be as many (if any), starving people and children. At least in terms of today's population size.

But like I said, I really don't care what people eat. I have absolutely no desire to regulate what you choose to eat. This was just a few ways to play the game of regulating freedom in order to save lives. I don't actually have people asking me these questions, but if I did, this is the type of digression I would go into (from whatever they were questioning me on), and attempt to juxtapose the things they do that are harmful to the world to the things that I do that are.

The reason of course as to why I would have to digress, is because they asked me a question they know the answer to. I don't need it. But I would point things out that they don't need either, things they wouldn't like to have taken away from them I am sure. Like bacon.

Now, starvation numbers vary from time to time and source to source, but world wide, there are about 20,000 people who die a day from malnourishment http://www.statisticbrain.com/world-hunger-statistics/. Now, I couldn't find world statistics, and I am not going to find the total reported firearms related deaths of each country in the world, and add them all up. But the US is the leader in firearm deaths by a large margin in the world. We have about 30,000 firearm deaths per year, the majority of them suicides.

Now, knowing the facts, anyone able to use some logic and reason this deductively should start to realize that they should focus their energies on more important things if they truly wish to save lives. But they don't and they won't, and they will call non-sequitur on my part. Which is partially true, but I wasn't left with much other option given the question.

bronn, now hear this! We have a Political Arena forum for discussing political ideas. You need a paid membership to post there. Do NOT stir up political arguments outside of that forum.

Yes, please take your opinion elsewhere!! This is the Busse forum!!

I heard a story in the CRK forum ( I believe) where a gentleman had a nice knife at work and his coworker asked "why do you need a knife like that?" The gentleman responded, why do you need that $100,000 BMW sitting in the parking lot? Why not just buy a basic Chevy? You don't need anything more than that!
It's all in what you prefer!

I think they were stirred up well before bronn interjected and you should have seen that from the start. Poor form calling one member out.:thumbdn:

Thank you, Esav!

bronn, in other words regarding this forum...

Poor form calling me out, Sethrotull. I am not responsible for every post on Bladeforums, only the ones I see. If any other post offend thee, please be so kind as to Report Post.

I say I want a reliable tool that will last a lifetime and I can still get a considerable amount of the purchase price back if I decide to sell.

Either that or I just shrug and let them think I'm crazy. Anyone who knows me knows I love my blades and most people have an expensive hobby they can relate that to.

Earlier today I was considering selling a few blades and buying some kind of cheap, ratty motorcycle. That's all I need to ride, but if I could afford it, I'd rather spend my money on something exotic that has superb quality and a high return value.

Your opinion is noted. Now please back off. You wanna chew someone's azz, feel free to send me a PM.

Already took it to PM and sent Esav one he can forward it to you if he wants.

You may still get one from me though.

Well, I seem to have ruffled some feathers with my second post. Apologies. Although, the question of whether someone should be able to own any of these things, particularly an "assault rifle" or knife is inherently political, particularly considering the 2nd amendment of our constitution is the sole reason we still are able to own "assault style rifles". But I see the line and where I crossed it. I simply felt the need to justify that I am neither a liar nor ill informed. But that is not the point, it was a long digression. Just tried to give you some friendly tips OP. I guess the best I can do for you is just ignore them.

To sum up what I was trying to say before: you can't regulate the danger out of living.

OP, I know what you mean about people just wanting to pick fights. I was talking to a neighbor and, out of nowhere, she says, "I don't believe in evolution." in a smug, opinionated sort of way. She was trying to get me to argue with her so she could tell me all of her life changing revelations she's had about the topic. Keep in mind she didn't have a clue what I believed. I don't think I said anything. Maybe I'm getting older, but it seems more and more, that's the right answer for me.

bronn, you made a great argument, but it strayed too far over the political line for this particular forum. I will say that I thought it was well written, and you do seem very inforrmed on the subject.

On the point of the danger of living: One cannot avoid the "footprint" one causes by simply living one's life...although the size I imagine can be reduced to some degree, but that can't be regulated either. ;)

Hey, thanks! I appreciate it. I definitely see what I did. And I apologize.

Truth be told, I did not even realize what forum I was in. I got here through the first page portal of popular topics, or new posts whatever that is. Granted when I am on Bladeforums I usually am in the Busse section, guess it is funny it happened to be here.

I didn't mean to piss any of you off I am pretty laid back and just kind of vocal on my personal freedoms, so I kind of got into my head on how to throw some jabs back at the condescending.

But back to knives, when the hell is the bossman going to tell us that the 300 LE is the NMSHBM? I want my first mistress...
