why does everyone hate gerber.

I don't like them, but they make great "dirty-who-cares-abuse" kinda knives. In a situation, where, say, I wouldn't want to use my Benchmades, I grab a Gerber.
They sure as hell don't stay sharp, but they are strong. I've batoned my Paraframe through 2X4's and not much play came out.

How you gonna cut with a dull knife? I don't need to batton that often anyway. ;)

FYI: just caught wind of yet another 'voluntary recall' from Gerber on their BG Parang chopper (31-000698, 31-000698N, 31-000601, 31-000986 and 31-001111) for QC/potential safety issues. Not awesome.

I had 2 Gerber knives that I liked, one was the Bolt Action and the other was the Guardian I got in 82 before I went Lebanon. Liked both of them and still have the Guardian. I traded the Bolt Action after carrying for 5 or 6 years, it was a good knife other than it was a bear to resharpen but it held an edge. Never was impressed by anything else they made especially the multitools. Just my opinion....

I'm a follower. I hate Gerber because everyone else does. Lol. No, for me it is lack of the same quality they used to have.

Eh, Gerber isn't bad for making beater knives at a decent price. Right now my beater knife that I'm not scared to snap in half is my Gerber Paraframe II, and it's a decent frame lock for the price. (Not a fan of the locking system though. :barf: ) Not to mention the LMF II and the Bear Grylls series, which are perfect for abusing. However, when it comes to a good carry knife that I'm trying to preserve for longer, I'd rather go with a Buck or something similar.

Those sound like good ole Portland made Gerbers before the buy out in '86 and the initial moving to China in '90. Keep 'em around they'll do some proper service as a knife and not a sharpened beater/prybar.
