I feel like spyderco is kinda like glock handguns. Both were the start of modern innovations of each category (pocket clip/thumbhole and polymer handgun reliability/high capacity) and that's one of the main reasons they became so powerful, big, and well-regarded. This doesn't mean the other companies are worse or anything, but these two companies' innovations are just more modern, and many people consider this as better. Then there are other people who don't like the modern innovations that Spyderco offers, and they get frustrated and mad about all these other people that talk about how much they love Spyderco. Then they start to hate Spyderco because they want others to like what they like.
I know that most knives, even the 99cent camping knife from wal-mart, could do most of the jobs I have for it, albeit with a lot more sharpening. But personally I take pleasure in owning and using a high-quality tool with good steel, accessibility, and my own taste of aesthetics. I own one Spyderco because I wanted to try out the best thumbhole on the market, and I like their VG10 steel now, but personally I like my Buck 110 more. I'll always love it more because it was my first knife. It's something intangible about the Buck 110 that the Spyderco will never be able to provide for me. It's like an extension of my hand, so of course it will cut better in MY hand than a Spyderco will. (I still like my purple Endura FFG!)
I don't really EVER see Spyderco taking much heat, because I usually just read this mostly pro-spyderco forum and watch the big-name YouTubers, like BluntTruth and Nutnfancy, who both like Spydercos. What I do sometimes see are people who think that Spyderco is the best thing since sliced bread, which is fine because that's what I think of USA Bucks and Schrades, but they vehemently argue that Spyderco has the best knives ever for everyone, and no one on this forum in their right mind should think that.
