I don't believe Boats is saying to change the classic 110, but to have a different model number with the features he has suggested.
A lighter version would need the thumb studs I think. It may not be heavy enough to open one handed without them, like I do with my 110's.
If not a lockback, my next preference would be a frame lock. I have had liner locks in other brands fold up on me.
Quoted for truth.
I am certainly not proposing to change the 110 itself. I even proposed a model designation.
The lock back is the way to go to keep costs down and strength up. Again I don't think one handed closing is nearly as important as one handed opening, so the classic 110 profile could be carried over.
The thing I do not like about frame locks are that they undermine total ambidexterity. On that front, a lock back is better.
Finally, in this day and age, why on earth would anyone make a one sided only clip? I know a couple of right handed cops who carry folding knives in their left front pockets as "last ditch" weapons in case of a handgun retention fight. Sure that's a small sample of people, but the knife should always be adaptable to its user's carry desires, not dictated to them from the home office.
