Why dropping spydercos?

Knifecenter has a physical location, and they do sell items from this location, so I guess that qualifies them. Also correct me if I'm wrong, but Amazon is more like a marketplace of sellers with fixed prices. If you look at the description of an item, it usually lists what company or person is selling it.

Uhh, not exactly. Amazon is a company themselves. They ALSO have a marketplace, but if you look up an item on Amazon, the Tenacious for example, it very clearly states "Ships and sold from Amazon". Then, further below that, you have links for "buy new" and "buy used", and if you click them, it takes you to the marketplace where you have the option of ordering from various 3rd party sellers, such as Red's Gear and Knife Country, who list the items at THEIR prices(which may be more or less than the Amazon price, with whatever shipping prices they set, including free on some sellers). Now, there are some items on Amazon that are only available through the marketplace(if you search for one of them, when you click the item link it will say "This item is unavailable" but the "buy new" and "buy used" links are still there, meaning Amazon doesn't currently have the item for sale but the marketplace sellers do), but the VAST majority of stuff on Amazon is available FROM Amazon, not just the marketplace sellers.

You seem very enthusiastic about the subject.

Anyway, there must be a way they are able to comply with the terms. Perhaps only a physical storage is needed, or exceptions apply for some sort of fee. I'm not really interested in looking it up over a few exceptions to the rule.

I've yet to see a spyderco in a store around my area. My local stores, even knife stores focus more on traditional slipjoints and fixed blades. My area is in the woods and see's a lot of hunting and other related activities. The Army/Navy store sells sog and boker along with the hunting stuff, cabela's and gander mountain sell some gerber leatherman and kershaw but mostly buck and other hunting related things. Some of it has to do with geographical location. The knives might sell better in one area than another so spyderco could pull this dealer for that one and make more money from it, along with everything else that has been said. The dollar controls everything.

Yeah, I don't see Spyderco in stores around here either, unless I make the drive to House of Blades. You can easily find Buck, SOG, SAKs, and Gerber(esp the Bear Grylls stuff) at most places that sell knives, Kershaw is pretty common(ZT less so), plus you can find junky Winchester brand stuff at several places, and Academy carries S&W and Remington stuff too. But no Spyderco or Benchmade.

They are not dictating price to the market place. There are many ways to sell items, as seen by BBS's pricing, some carry over a million dollars in inventory, others $5000. Not all vendors survive their choices. Free market.
Let me clear up my statement for you. The quote I said... "Spyderco's own way of taking care of brick and mortar dealers".... was not a statement but was meant as a comeback to someone else that I was replying to. That poster was saying that in effect Benchmade takes care of brick and mortar stores through their business practices that he cited and Spyderco does not. So the little backstory you provided citing free market and all that wasn't necessary, I understand that my statement on its own may be misconstrued but pay attention next time. But if you want to go there... They do dictate price to the market to an extent. MSRP is an example, also all Spydercos do have a sweet spot by percentage off the MSRP which results to street price. Knives have targeted pricepoints: $30 Tenacious, $60 Endura, $110 PM2 (supposed to) etc. Sal has even shared that he warned a dealer for gouging prices, it's quoted here on the forums not sure just how free they are in what they charge before a whistle gets blown. Back to the brick and mortar requirement, I'm not sure why that is really. I just said that to make a point and not to claim anything about how the market works. You should school me about it on the proper thread at least.

Is there an Amazon "Brick and Mortar" store somewhere? Cause they've been selling Spydercos for as long as I've been shopping there, and I thought they were just an online store. What about Knifecenter, I was also under the impression they were just an online seller...

Yeah I just know about that certain requirement to become a Spyderco dealer because of it being brought up a few times. About that Amazon store somewhere, I don't really care to know so I couldn't tell you.

When I went to the third largest knife show (400 tables) this year the Spyderco booth was always packed with fans way beyond any other booth. Spyderco clearly has a large following.
