I hate playing moderator but I had better say something before Spark or Mike does.

I like a good fight as much as anyone, ask anyone who knows me. But, we are stating to have a bit of name calling and the forums rules strictly forbidden. So....knock it off. Enough said.

As far as the pivots go, we are using blue loctite on them during assembly now. We do not feel any "re-engineering" of the pivot is necessary. We want the knives to be user friendly and serviceable. There is no reason that you should have to send the knife to the factory to be cleaned out.

Take care,
Derek

Alright Derek. Here' s a question I posed long ago. But never really got a concrete reply from this forum (or other, don' t recall). Does Emerson Knife Co. recognize the owners perogative to take apart their folders for routine maintenance? If not, is it then in fact cause for voiding ones warrantee?? Thank you.

Nakano,

Yes. You can absolutely take your folder apart for routine maintenance. We are big advocates of taking care of your tools. It is not rocket science to disassemble a knife. If I can do it, anyone can.

Derek

Derek,

Thanks for the heads up. Even though I have already done it, it is nice to know the you guys are all for user maintenance.
Keep up the good work.

Nonbox, don't let something as trivial as a loose pivot screw stop you from buying an Emerson. A little bit of "Loctite" will fix that problem.

Inerestingly enough, the pivots on some of my older Emerson loosened occasionally with use until I added a drop of Loctite, how ever, I have several 2000s, 2001s and 2002 Emersons and have yet to have any problems at all.

If Derek can do it, ANYBODY can do it...:D :D :D

My 2001 7b has not had *any* problems with loosening. I have slowly increased the pivot tension over the last couple of months as the knife beds in, but the screw stays wherever I put it. I don't know if the older Emersons are this way, but on mine, the pivot bolt is in the form of a Chicago screw. There is a larger diameter tube with a threaded hole. The tube has a small flat that mates with a flat in the hole in the liner to stop it from rotating. The flathead screw only serves to adjust the tension on the blade, so is not subject to any rotational force. One of the main reasons I bought an Emersons was because it was designed to be user maintainable. And, it is.

Sure would like to find a source of those oillite impregnated bronze washers though...
