Why I Don't Carry An Expensive Knife

This reminds me of a Jack Ass episode where a guy drives off with his "baby in a car seat" on the roof of the car.

I was busting.. Because he called himself a dumb*ss multiple times in the OP..
I found that amusing... So I was jokingly agreeing with him..
Like I need your help.:D

Not the sharpest thing I ever did.

I used to climb in the City of Rocks (Idaho) and was amazed at the number of people that would dump their gear on the tailgate and then drive off. Found a couple of nice racks one weekend. Looking at the posting board, I wasn't the only one trying to get the owners gear back to them.

Long ago, when I was leaving high school one day- I drove off with my sketchbook and art supplies box on top of my car, including a nice SAK. Didn't realize it until much later.

I had two brain farts that cost me about $600 in knives. I once failed to properly close my door and my Mnandi fell out of my pocket and was run over by a semi before I could retrieve it. I ended up buying another Mnandi. In another incident, I had just gotten beautiful framelock from Mike Obenauf and I proceeded to lose it trying on a coat in a store. I ended up with a great $75 coat, but lost a $300 custom that is surely worth much more now.:grumpy:

Those two incidents pretty much killed my interest in really highend knives.:(

Glad your knife was still there.

When I was a kid, we went to a church with a large membership. I've seen a lot of Bibles on roofs, heading out of the parking lot, pages fluttering in the wind...

Yeah, I’ve got the dumb assed gene but mine seems to time out at about two weeks. With almost everything I may carry around from knives to GPSs there is like a two week period, after that I’m locked into the object.

My Ken Onion Leek cost me about $50.00 or so, I thought that was a lot for a pocket knife that didn’t even have a corkscrew. I lost it 4 times in the first two weeks, I was lucky enough that my friends where looking out for me and it was returned every time. After that I haven’t had the problem. I never wore a knife clipped to my pocket before and every time I pulled out my money or keys I dropped the knife. It’s been about 4 years now and we’re good :)

Good story. I was in a Lowe's parking lot 3 or 4 summers ago and saw something fly off a car roof as it drove away. I tried to get the driver's attention from about 60 feet away and failed to get them to stop. I was not at an angle to get their license plate number, not that that would have helped me find them since I'm just a civilian.

Anyway, I walk up to the thing that fell and it was a bifold leather money clip and inside were seven $100 bills. Nothing else. $700 bucks . . .

I put a 30 day classified in the paper asking for anyone who may have lost "something" at Lowe's parking lot on the day it occurred and never got a reply.

30 days later I owned $700 minus the fee for the classified ad. Unfortunately I wasn't a knife nut yet . . .

I stoped misplacing tools when i started carrying expensive stuff , ditto pens etc . The expensive stuff has saved me bucks .

So, I guess the CR mini Sebi. idea will be put on the back burner for now.

I think that you SUBCONSCIOUS mind was trying to lose your knife so that you could upgrade to your min seb dream knife.

Roll with it, you can't fight the subconscious mind!

I did something similar except i put my apple macbook on my roof. I was driving along and then remembered. Casually grabbed it off the roof while still driving and felt like a dumbass for about 3 weeks haha:). I just don't put stuff on my roof anymore:)

I have never lost an expensive knife because I am anal about putting them back in my pocket when I am finished using them.
When I go somewhere where I may be concerned about losing an expensive knife, the cheapie I carry instead is my old two-screw CPM-440V Military.
Its old, been sharpened entirely too much because everytime I use it, the dang blade chips.:grumpy: So if it gets lost I really could care less.

Yeah thats why I carry a cheaper one around too. I would hate to lose
one out on a job site.

I lost a CS folder and could not figure where. While cutting the lawn the next week I saw a sparkle. It was my CS folder. ;)
